This is Odile. She is a wonderful kitten and not an evil, black swan. One of her whiskers is bright white and she loves to be carried around (preferably on a shoulder). #Catsky #CatsOfBluesky 🐈‍⬛

Recent events got me thinking about Hunter S. Thompson, and eventually recalling this letter of support he sent journalist William Farr, who famously chose to go to jail rather than reveal a source to government goons.

Best protest signs so far. And you know what? They *both* look like their heads fell in the cheese dip back in 1957.

The hip local newsweekly that all the coolest cats were reading back in the day...

Yikes.

(Good?) Morning.

Some people might say there's no good reason to have a 7-foot plague doctor lurking behind you in your home office. I am not one of those people.

Decided to make my first post through @flashes.blue app an important one. This is Hobbes. She enjoys attacking strings and jumping into boxes. #CatSky #CatsOfBluesky 🐈‍⬛

Happy to finally check out Flashes (@flashes.blue), the Bluesky answer to Instagram. It's pretty. Great filters & feeds, and a really smooth interface. Similar enough to be comfy, but different enough to offer a fresh perspective on your feed. (More cat pics & fun, less doomscrolling.)

Fun fact: I was skating while filming in some of the outdoor shots here.

Go ahead and start your day with a damn fine cup of coffee.

Took a trip to Lake Placid this weekend for work. Played around with my new camera and gear, held the torch from the 1980 Olympics, and visited a few landmarks. Did not encounter any giant crocodiles. Here are a few random moments from the day.

At this point, why are Democrats (and any other not-Nazis, for that matter) still using Twitter / X / SwastiChat like it's a perfectly fine way to chat w/ people? Why validate the platform any longer? They don't need to delete their accounts, but they can just... decide not to use it.

Seems like another opportunity to say it: Support your local library and librarians. They're going to need it this year.

Picked up a new batch of comics from the library. This is a reminder to visit your local library and, of course, be kind to the librarians. They're awesome.

Greetings from Lake Placid, land of ski jumps, miracles on ice, and, strangely, giant crocodiles.

Coming on a *little* strong there, @bublywater.bsky.social ...

I was absolutely stunned by the artistry at work with Richard Parker, the tiger puppet in the "Life of Pi" play. Producing this video for @timesunion.com was a wonderful experience, as I'm a child of the Jim Henson era and truly adore puppetry. Watch the vid below & check out my full article here:

Relevant to the interests of many people I know... (and Kristen is awesome for sharing this advice)

This just happened to a friend. He loves to travel & now fears his traveling days are over. His passport reverted to a gender that no longer applies to him visually or biologically. Given all he went through to bring his life - physically & legally - into sync w/ his true self, it's heartbreaking.

"The Terror of Trigon!"

The master of horror does it again! Terrifying!

Always great to see more well-deserved praise for the amazing work of @hardingart.bsky.social.

"During his comments before approaching the dais, he was critical of several Make America Great Again policies, calling it 'explicitly a Nazi movement.'"

The punishing metaphors will continue until reality improves.

With white nationalists now in late stages of infiltrating/seizing control of the gov't, we've reached a point when it'd be more surprising to learn some agencies *aren't* filled w/ people like this. (Just finished Joe Moore's "White Robes & Broken Badges" and, well... outlook's not so good, folks.)

That comment... 👨🏼‍🍳😘

Byline in print ed. of @timesunion.com today. I've written for 4 local print newspapers now, produced a podcast for local NPR station, and even wrote for a great, local college paper. We're lucky to have such excellent news outlets in NY's Capital Region & I'm thankful to have a history w/ them.

Took a break from screening Oscar nominees & auteur films my library movie club chose this month to watch "Henry Danger: The Movie" w/ my son. We cheered & laughed & had fun w/ it, which was nice after so many sad films. Reminder: It's okay to have fun & recharge your joy w/ silly things sometimes.

The 2018 limousine crash that killed 20 people in upstate New York is one of the deadliest ground transportation disasters in U.S. history. In this podcast, host Jessica Marshall (@jess-on-ice.com) and reporter Larry Rulison dig into the story behind the crash.

I would play the heck out of this game. #TMNT

In honor of tomorrow and of phish being nominated to RnR hall of fame, today’s tbt is the music video I did for Trey anastasio’s “Valentine.” #phish #treyanastasio #musicvideo #motiongraphics

Hey, it's my college housemate, Dan Scavino, back in the news! (We shared an apartment for a semester. No joke.) I didn't realize that listening to a lot of Billy Joel while watching golf on TV in your underwear qualified you as an expert in performing arts, but what do *I* know?

I loved getting this tour of MiSci's vault. I'm planning to roll out more video segments down the road, as I recorded *so much* during the tour. MiSci really is a local treasure. Thanks for hosting me, @chunter44.bsky.social!

Cool article about Cobalt Green pigment. www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2025/02...

Here's what gives me a tiny bit of comfort every day: Seeing people flocking to Bluesky. I check the total several times a day. bcounter.nat.vg

Flavor Flav has confirmed the arrival of the former US Secretary of Transportation on the most popular social media platform among people who aren't Nazi sympathizers. ... For the record, I totally called this back in 1990. It's all there in Fear Of A Black Planet if you're paying attention.

This was a tough assignment, but somehow I managed to see it through.
