A semi-concealed #foxoftheday today , shared by @johnboorman.bsky.social , thank you John .

“the Centre for Health and the Public Interest, which tracks NHS privatisation, said Streeting was talking “utter nonsense” about the private sector providing extra capacity because almost all the doctors it uses to perform operations are NHS staff” www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

The idea that using the private sector adds genuine additional capacity to support the NHS is "utter nonsense" says our Director David Rowland. The private sector is entirely reliant on NHS doctors to do any operations. Without them it would collapse overnight www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

MPs are elected to serve their constituents, not launch their TV careers. We need a clear limit on hours spent and money earned from second jobs. Add you name to our letter. secure.unlockdemocracy.org.uk/page/170331/...

No Starmer, we don't all profit open.substack.com/pub/anothera...

Here’s what Angela Rayner and the rest of the Labour Party are not disclosing to the public about Bristol and 86 other regions of the UK that fall within SEZ and Freeport status. I’ll explain in detail what is going on and how it’s part of UK zone Fever. @carladenyer.bsky.social Thread

Before Margaret Thatcher there was no profit on UK Energy. Because it was owned by you. I suggest we bring back the 100% tax and nationalise the lot.

If you want to cut Energy Bills, renationalise Energy. If you want to cut Water Bills, renationalise Water. It is the only way.

Vaccines save lives. Pass it on.

Well I for one miss the old days when policemen were free to hit kids around the head with impunity! Anyone else???

They both keep their money in Tax Havens.

Curse of Private Equity What Happens When Private Equity Owns Your Kid’s Day Care. It devours - wage/staff cuts, price hikes, profiteering, asset stripping, low investment, tax dodges. It controls UK GP surgeries, NHS services, care homes, vets, supermarkets, water, rail, more. No happy ending.

Corporate Welfare £89m UK subsidy to the most expensive movie. £ms handed to the film industry, without any share of profits. Movies like James Bond funded by public purse. Profits booked in tax havens. UK taxes dodged. Movies create jobs, so do benefits and public services. Why are they cut?

Starmer told UK must repeal hate speech laws to protect LGBT+ people or lose Trump trade deal. Plus sacrifice the NHS, food and environmental standards, worker rights. Who governs? No thank you. Don't want to be the 51st state, or US slaves. Better to join the EU and Single Market.

Council Tax used to be called Rates and you were charged based upon the value of your house, if it was worth 100x as much, you paid 100x as much. Margaret Thatcher changed it to Council Tax and limited the maximum payment to 3x the minimum payment. A tax cut for the rich.

I'm going to have to park the politics thing for the rest of the evening. 😶

Former Tory MP among 15 charged for alleged cheating connected to bets on timing of 2024 UK election. Inside information always helps. MPs are comparatively well paid. Why the insatiable urge for more and more? Seems to be a social sickness.

Anglican Water who increased their customers bills an average of 19% in April have said they are unlikely to be able to put in any more money for investment. Nationalise them now, it is the only way to stop the theft.

The TUC calls for a closer trading relationship with the EU in an increasingly unpredictable and volatile global economy. Sounds like a plan www.tuc.org.uk/news/major-s...

Take a look at Nigel Farage's register of interests, how much he is being paid is insane. members.parliament.uk/member/5091/...

I just learned that China has been on TikTok exposing western luxury brands for making their products in China and lying about it. China is now selling some of the items directly, cutting out the the middle man (luxury brand) and selling the items for a fraction of the price. Some thoughts. . . .

Chilling warning from Fiona Hill - let's not forget, Putin's biographer before she went to work for Trump in his first term. She knows the signs of growing authoritarianism, and she sees them in the US now.

Let’s pause and look at what’s happening through the eyes of neoliberal ideologues: public infrastructure is an impediment to unfettered wealth accumulation, taxation is theft of property, the obstacle of big government puts constraints on profits, therefore it must be removed altogether. 1/3

Michael Gove used to ban teachers from their profession for life for drug use. He got caught taking cocaine and a few years later he's getting a peerage? It's as clear as day that drug laws are just there to punish the working class.

I need to find healthy ways to deal with the stress that reading stuff like this causes me. It is so sad to watch.

Trump announces 90-day pause on higher tariffs for many, but hikes them to 125% on China. China likely to respond - higher tariffs on US goods, sell US govt bonds to drive up interest rates. Can't recall seeing any policy analysis. Policy on the hoof driven by ego and lust for power

Today’s Big 45 @greatesthitsuk.bsky.social

This isn't The Art of the Deal. It's insider trading with a bad comb-over. Step 1: Tank the Market, Scare the Non-Millionaires Step 2: Let the Aristocrats Feast Step 3: Flip, but say ‘Winning’ Step 4: Pretend None of This Ever Happened & Get Your Media Dregs To Do The Same Rinse, Enrich, Repeat.

Is the Sun's story about millionaires fleeing the UK the same as the one which keeps cropping up every couple of months? www.cityam.com/millionaires... The one which More Or Less debunked last September, with the same Henley & partners involved? www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p... #r4today

I wonder what Susan Hall's been up to?

Every single Thatcher/Major era privatisation, from steel and water to railways, has ended in failure. Tell me I'm wrong.

There is a rapidly growing number of key workers on zero-hour contracts, delivery drivers, carers, online labour or cloud labour, remote labour, stand-by employment, who qualify as The Precariat; precarious work, insecure labour tailored for a 'concierge economy' during a New Gilded Age.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

It’s a recalibration of economic control. Oligarchs don’t live paycheck to paycheck. They have the capital to buy market dips and recoup faster, acquiring more assets at fire sale prices along the way. When the dust finally settles, they will own more. The rest of us will own less. A lot less.

Race-to-the-Bottom. UK govt to further deregulate private equity and hedge funds. Lifts regulation threshold from £100m to £5bn. Will encourage more nefarious practices. PE managers already enjoy tax breaks, will get even richer. When it goes belly-up people will bear the cost. archive.ph/EHNWx

The only reason a very rich country like the UK would Brexit is to turn the UK into patchworks of corporate sovereignties and use State aid for companies as corporate welfare.

So, taking the water companies back into Government control would STILL be cheaper than leaving them in the hands of private equity, even if the crap numbers used by Starmer's excuse brigade were true. @mattbishopmp.bsky.social - take a look at the numbers! weownit.org.uk/news/governm...

UK state pension rises by £470 to £11,790 a yr. 26% of retirees receive the full amount SP is less than 50% of minimum wage. Worst in major economies. Thousands below the poverty line lost winter fuel payment. 2m pensioners live in poverty. 110,000 a year die in fuel poverty.

UK businesses pay the highest electricity price in the developed world, Twice the EU average, 2.6 times that of Korea, four times more than the US and China Profiteering by energy companies is destroying households and businesses. Yet govts do nothing. Nationalise energy.

Chris Packham, a national treasure, please watch and listen to what he has to say. And if you’re a scientist, please join him in parliament on May 13th 2025. youtube.com/watch?v=sBXH...

Oh look it's a disabled person who fraudulently claimed benefits to buy a £50m yacht. Perhaps now we can deal with her?

If this isn't misconduct in public office l think we need a new definition & while we are at it a police force with the gumption to take on these people. Be more French & make corruption have consequences!

Private equity wants UK govt to water down tax changes. Govt already climbed down. They want more. Private equity manager income is taxed as a capital gain, lower tax rate than applied to wages. It is always, give us what we want or else. Meanwhile, the poor face benefit cuts. archive.ph/hn6Io
