Happy Opening Day, everybody. I'm using this opportunity to recommend some writers whose work I think would enrich the season for you. (Working under the assumption that anyone following me knows and loves Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, and FanGraphs—they’re the gold standard for a reason.)

Good stuff here from @benlindbergh.bsky.social on why the gap between the Majors and Triple-A might not be as big for hitters as we've thought recently: www.theringer.com/2025/03/26/m...

Baseball. Just the interesting stuff. 3x a week. The Bandwagon: Coming Monday from me and @hannahrkeyser.bsky.social. 📬 bandwagon.substack.com/p/coming-soon

Hell yeah we profiled John Kruk. With Opening Day just a few days away, Jake Kring-Schreifels takes us inside the mind of America's greatest, most unpredictable broadcaster. New, @phillymag.com:

Baseball: Not the only thing that’s back. 👀 bandwagon.substack.com

If you’re looking for some fantasy draft help, Chris and company have you covered.

An incredible teammate and massive presence in the college sports world. Dennis Dodd is retiring, and I'm happy for him and sad to lose him: www.cbssports.com/college-foot...

We talked breakout players for the upcoming season.

Or you could just give managers fewer relief pitchers. It is exhausting watching baseball people twist themselves in knots to avoid the right answer. Just cap available relievers by game and limit transactions. Don't gamify the decision to leave a starter in, just make doing it a better option.

No, MLB absolutely should not reinstate Pete Rose. Ever.

We’ve Got College Data!

Zach Reks can credit his baseball career to "athletically" dismounting a scooter at the right time in the right place (in front of Rick Eckstein), per this old Baseball America report:

You're not going to want to miss this one....The Future of Challenge Strategy: Insights from ABS in Triple-A 🔥 downonthefarm.substack.com/p/the-future...

We're hiring! If you're bilingual in English and Japanese and are excited by this job listing, please apply! www.mlb.com/careers/oppo...

On the GOAT:

MLB teams' increasing reliance on their bullpens is a manifestation of optimized pitching strategy. Starters' performance wanes as their pitch counts rise and batters get multiple looks at them. Relievers keep getting nastier every year. It's just smart baseball. But what if it's not?

Here are my MLB breakout picks for this season—one for every team, tiered by confidence level. As always: you will not find top prospects, former Rookie of the Year Award winners, or any of that nonsense on here. This is for the sickos: www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb...

Reposting this for the evening crowd, please support worker-owned sports writing if you can

Good morning from Taipei! We are four hours away from the start of the first 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifier, South Africa vs. Nicaragua. Former Mariners prospect Dylan Unsworth gets the nod for RSA opposite Nicaragua’s Ronald Medrano. Catch you at 11 PM ET/9 MT on worldbaseballclassic.com!

On the Shamsbot, I decided to create a big starter pack that's dedicated solely to the WNBA. There are over 130 people in it atm and I'd like to use the reach of that account to help grow the W community here along w the NBA. So check it out if you're looking for WNBA ppl to both support and follow:

The college baseball season kicks off today. As is tradition, my preseason draft rankings are now up at CBS Sports. This is the first time I've ranked a pitcher No. 1: www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/202...

interviewed hubie brown a few years ago, and he recited a conversation from his first practice as a bucks assistant coach in 1972 www.cbssports.com/nba/news/hub...

Finally, a low-stakes reason for an existential crisis.

Used to think Faedo could become the next Chaz Roe. Maybe he will now.

This is neat. Thank you to anyone/everyone who read, shared, or nominated my piece on franchise ownership. And congratulations to the category's other finalists— @davidjroth.bsky.social, @richstaff.bsky.social, @baumann.bsky.social, @michaelrosen.bsky.social sabr.org/latest/annou...

Just a reminder that the Annual has been seen out in the wild, and that you can order yours today. It's got a ton of great team essays by a ton of talented people, clever comments, PECOTA projections, and one Johnny Cash reference tucked into a lineout that I'm particularly proud of.

Sometimes it feels like the NBA is just speedrunning the last two decades of MLB discourse.
