The northernmost record store in the world is in the Arctic Circle, at the top of Norway. The southernmost is at the bottom of New Zealand's South Island. As of about five minutes ago, it is my life's ambition to write a travel book visiting different record shops, journeying between the two.

There's a much, much more interesting article to be written on the Gatekeeping Of Guinness. It's mad to see how many folk portray one of the best known drinks in the world as some secret, underground ritual.

Incredibly liberal use of the word "interesting" here.

A nice surprise to check in on the land of Bezos and see that my trusty old steed, Winner Stays On, is currently the most gifted book in Essays & Sports Journalism.

Delighted to publish the second issue of my new weekly newsletter, The Not-For-Wankers Football Review. Subscribe for free here. rmclarkrm.substack.com/p/the-not-fo...

All I have to add to the current WFH discourse is this - My girlfriend is cuddled up under my shoulder watching The Elephant Man and our cat is asleep on my lap. I am working on the laptop. It's great.

I launched a substack! It's called.... The Not-For-Wankers Football Review. It's funny, it's quick, it's light. It's good, really. Here's the first post. rmclarkrm.substack.com/p/the-not-fo...

Why, in 2025, is a national newspaper still putting this twisted maniac* on its front page? *and his air fryer recipes

Incredibly cool that this exists. Angela Carter reviews Bob Dylan in 1966. thelondonmagazine.org/archive-bob-...

Beautiful venue, interesting talk. @manchestermill.bsky.social and Kath Viner at John Rylands Library. Also - came home with a complimentary bookmark. It doesn't get better than this.

Finally getting around to reading some HST, as is a rite of passage for any white male writer in their mid-20's. The surprising thing is how bloody good it is! Most of the essays in here are worlds more interesting than the self-indulgent excess that I'd expected. Lovely clear sentences too.

What stage of climate crisis is bulldozing abandoned luxury cars to make way for firetrucks?

I dropped down another day at my day job this year, freeing up more time to work freelance. Scary to not have the guaranteed cash but it's so energising having the extra time!!

Today Greater Manchester has taken back public control of the bus network after decades of disastrous deregulation. Next up we demand public ownership and control of essential networks of water, energy, broadband, railways and more

Yesterday marked a year since the publication of my book, Winner Stays On, with Pitch Publishing. After a few months of sleep I decided to try my hand at freelancing and have since worked with FT Weekend, British GQ, WIRED, The Mill, MUNDIAL & more. Here's to keeping moving forwards in 2025 🤞

Good afternoon. Yesterday I received the first truly, angrily bad review of my book. The guy was kind enough to specify which page he stopped reading on - and it appears that describing something as "faded cumshot yellow" was the straw that broke the camel's back. You know what? Fair enough.

Sending love out to every author who learned that their publisher’s marketing plan for their new book was to have an intern visit a remote woodland in winter, dig a hole in the frozen earth, and whisper their book’s title once, ‘neath the crescent moon.

Ah, now that Christmas is well and truly over, I can finally return to my true one love in life - picking out the dried bogeys that have formed in the corners of my cat's eyes.

This morning I watched every Instagram story on my feed (??) (app??) for the first time in about three years. Load of absolute tosh. Happy Christmas

It's the personal touch that really works in marketing

I'm love love loving the Kim Deal album

Good morning! I've left my laptop somewhere stupid and my partner accidentally picked up the wrong charger this morning so the back-up laptop is out of action too. Meaning - I physically cannot do any work today and I am forced to sit with a beautiful kitten on my chest instead.

I complain about living in Manchester quite a lot but it is very very nice to be able to walk home after a gig and get back before 11pm

Mild hangover, breakfast delivered to the door. Crossword and coffee with my wife. Non-league football in the Manchester cold. What a beautiful day

Chasing an invoice from August. The person responsible for paying me has called me the wrong name in two consecutive emails. It's not looking good

I am so ridiculously, gloriously deep into research about the farcical history of Indonesian motor racing right now. It's beautiful.

There's a lot going on in the world right now but it shouldn't be overlooked that McFly have just been announced for Download Festival

There are some really lovely people out there in this #media #industry and maybe I'm in a naive honeymoon phase but there does seem a lot of appetite for helping younger and less established writers to make it out here. I'm having a great couple of weeks!!!

We're so back
