Remember when the foreign policy debate was the boring one? Presidential candidates would get on stage and echo each other, maybe occasionally claim "I'll be tougher on..."? That was important. A two-party system where one party wants to light alliances on fire can't be trusted between admins.

recent scholarship agrees that the invention of shredded cheese was a collaborative effort, a history that runs contrary to the claims by some proponents of the so called "grate man theory"

Dear manager, this week I 1. Parked that car 2. Dropped that phone 3. Slept on the floor 4. Dreamed about me 5. ...and I'm not coming back Sincerely, 17 percent of Canada

Definitely a potential Surf Dracula situation, except where you’ve already seen a bunch of Surf Dracula movies.

Turns out my ex-roommate, the State Department Nazi, should have just held on until 2025. It's fine now!

"So don't take our prejudice to heart. We hate everyone. The world around us never showed how loving could be fun. That's why we are how we are. And that's why we don't get very far."

So sad to hear about Chelsea Reject passing away. She deserved more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccwf...

Even if you don’t watch the show English Teacher, hope you'll read this. This is about more than 1 show, 1 guy. FX just renewed a show from a man facing allegations of assault. I have a LOT of questions about the implications not just for FX but for the whole industry www.salon.com/2025/02/12/f...

I am extremely freaking thrilled to announce that Bad Company is *officially* available for preorder wherever you buy books. (I am linking to Bookshop but buy it wherever!) I worked so, so hard on this book, and it would mean a ton to me if you ordered it. bookshop.org/a/109816/978...

It’s rare that you watch a commercial and know, to the penny, the size of a celebrity’s gambling debts. Anyway, “Kiss from a Rose” still slaps

Well, the line's been established: Contact to the head will be penalized harshly. I think it's a little much, but if it stays consistent, then fine.

The NFL spends two weeks sending everyone it can out to the nearest camera to say the refs don't favor KC...and then on the Eagles first possession, well...

@starstrickensf.bsky.social I don't know if you saw this at some point, but I'm helping a student with the SAT, and ... you're a problem! :)

Coffeeshop Playlist Update: "City of Angels," 10,000 Maniacs. ...no, really!

The President of the United States has called for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Media, make it plain.

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.

5/5 stars, no notes. The future won't come from CES -- and if it does, we're coooooked.

Your entire legacy as Senate Leader is of losing. All of it. Resign.

Rain's here. Fingers crossed the hills hold, but thank god otherwise. <3 <3 <3

Sending love to Louisiana today, dealing with a CRAZY cold snap that the state is in no way equipped to deal with. <3 <3

Coffeeshop Playlist Update: Feist, "1234." Better than any CGI de-aging software -- just dropped 15 years in seconds.

Crypto folks: Is this a rug pull? I'm trying to keep up with the lingo.

Thousands of new renters, many of whom will need to do so for years until their places are rebuilt...the knock-on effects from this alone are going to be destabilizing.

LA just sent a false alarm evacuation notice to a MASSIVE number of residents (all?). That'll help.

@chrislhayes.bsky.social Question for you/your show: how much more will the LA recovery cost due to Trump's tariffs? We get a LOT of wood from Canada...

It's complicated, as Hayes explains below. In the end, record-breaking winds and plain bad luck were always going to add up to a historic disaster. I just hope that the city sets aside time at some point to LEARN from all of this -- what could it do better next time?

You're going to hear a lot about Altadena, a beautiful, eccentric, really special community that suffered massive losses. If you haven't had a chance to visit, help them rebuild when it's time by coming, supporting local businesses and donating; they don't have the resources some other areas do.

Wind is shaking my apartment stronger that any earthquake I've experienced in 20+ years in L.A. Wow.
