Math is hard

I'm happy to publish something I've been reporting for a while: a guide for how to fight the Trump-Musk power grab and win, with specific advice that you can start acting on *today*. www.vox.com/politics/399...

ATTN FEDERAL WORKERS: I’ll say this again: download all your SF-50s, performance evals, and your eOPF. Now. Print hard copies. And make sure you file an informal grievance with your supervisor within 15 days of any adverse action. Here is a template: www.muellershewrote.com/p/informal-g...

DOGE could save $18 billion by canceling Musk's SpaceX and Telsa subsidies.

Secret Service: $7M to $10M. Air Travel and Motorcade: $4M-5M. Stadium Security Upgrades:
Additional metal detectors, bomb sweeps, security checkpoints: $2M. Local Law Enforcement: Overtime and personnel: $1M. Trump's Super Bowl attendance: $15 to $20M. Where’s DOGE?

Crazy how they spent so much energy accusing lgbtq people of being groomers that the christians didn’t notice the way they were being groomed into white nationalists

Yes. Finally, some meaningful pushback against these constitutional outlaws. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Friends, for something to be open source, we need to see 1. The data it was trained & evaluated on 2. The code 3. Model architecture 4. Model weights. DeepSeek only gives 3, 4. And I'll see the day that anyone gives us #1 without being forced to do so, because all of them are stealing data.

I said this before but it’s worth repeating: The US now is like 1930s Germany.

Co-founders of Covering Climate Now: “Too much of the coverage [of L.A. wildfires] has simply ignored the climate crisis altogether, an inexcusable failure when the scientific link between such megafires and a hotter, dryer planet is unequivocal.” www.thenation.com/article/envi...

More post truth, pro profit for a few

Excellent 🧵

Read this elegant satire, so on the nose, each paragraph more refined and absurd than the previous. Sample graph in the next post. @mcsweeneys.net www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/i-w...

Perfect thread. Widen our collective lens

Please read every word. The insurance companies know it's climate change.

just for some perspective, the santa ana’s are considered “fast” when they’re 40-50mph the santa ana’s blowing in LA right now are 80-100+ this is a fire hurricane

Does anyone have a contact for Ann ? Would love to discuss with her the possibility of partnering with her to publish her cartoons exclusively on @bluesky

tired: fearing that robots will become so smart they take your job wired: fearing that robots will still be dumb but take your job anyway

Perfect thread. In the end it's simple math.

Christmas is a good time to throw Wikipedia a few bucks to thank them for the many times you relied on the site that year. Members of the billionaire class want to destroy it for some reason. (@archive.org is also under constant threat nowadays and in need of support)

This might sound good but it’s actually a terrible climate strategy. We cannot have a livable future without shutting down the fossil fuel industry. That’s like locking your house with a monster inside

Relatedly, the truth of the below post has now haunted me for two weeks.

Great article here and the writer's frustration resonates with me daily as an LA resident. Car culture is both a race to death and a daily battle.

Big news! The 'all scientists who do climate' feed now stands at: 🌏 3500 MEMBERS 🌎 ...more than it ever had on Twitter! Huge welcome to #3949, my fav colleague @brasmus.bsky.social, and #3500, @johndparker.bsky.social, who says he’s “not good at social media.” No longer, John! Pin it here ⬇️

In Swiss elections today, voters rejected a referendum that would have dedicated $5.6 billion to expanding highways & building new roads. Green & left parties, which argued instead for spending the funds on transit & active mobility, successfully campaigned against the measure.

“We found there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10% then driving in that city went up by 10%.” Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. As the exodus from Twitter continues, more and more of our @cplusc.bsky.social fellows are posting here. If you want to hear about many of the best new ideas on climate, economic, & racial justice across a huge array of economic sectors + geographies, here's the starter pack go.bsky.app/VRstAbM

Loudest voices in the room continued...with no substance.

Truth + reality. Crystalizes the key issues of our generation. "Try to find a livable way forward" (we can start with #climate) @profwolff.bsky.social appreciate the truth in an age of truthiness. youtu.be/R0lPWGlwPvk?...
