Yey! My wildlife trail camera works. Have just checked the last 24 hrs on the allotment & last night we had a visit from a very healthy looking fox. Have just ordered an adapter so I can download from the chip to my laptop. Then I can post anything interesting. 🎥

Several hours of rain last night. The allotment track & car park are very muddy. My pond is overflowing (doing its drainage job) & all is well on the plot. Just a short visit today to check pallet condition & numbers & measure the space available to build the compost bins. 1/2

A ‘Brucie bonus’! When Allotment John saw what I was doing with my composting area he told me to leave one bay empty. When he next gets a load of the ‘good stuff’ he will empty a few bags into it as he passes. That guy is a diamond!

I'm on the lookout for a talented reporter to come and work with the team at @bylinetimes.bsky.social as we continue to grow. Please get in touch at [email protected] if you're interested

Dinner is in the oven & whilst I await the return of my BH from granddaughter minding duties, a cheeky G&T with a few nuts. Have a lovely weekend all.

Lovely to see some colour on the allotment today.

Potted on some Brandywine tomato seedlings. Can reach 6ft tall with a wide wingspan. Will need lots of support as the fruit are large. Recommend by Chef Marcus Waring on his small holding tv prog. 20 seeds came from Italy, so they better be good! Also started a few Moneymakers & Green Zebras.

New netted cage has taken on a jaunty angle in the wind today. The netting is a finer gauge than my other cages. Perfect for growing salads but the wind has more of an impact. Will set it further into the ground before I plant it up. Now, does that look like a sprout on my purple broccoli? 🤞

My poor old septuagenarian body has not worked like this since I dug the land drains & pond last year. I was aching after struggling with my new netted cage yesterday. Clearing the old compost area of plant debris, old wood etc has been the perfect antidote. Next job is to move the pallets, 1/2

A little bit of spring.

It’s been a while since I spent any time at the allotment. Family stuff has been taking precedence. My new netted cage arrived. An experimental, different design to my other two. Let’s spend a gentle hour or so putting it up I think. Ha! Very much a make it up as you go product. 1/2

This #NationalNestboxWeek, remember not all birds nest the same way! Here's a few options to get you started... 🧵👇 Robins and Wrens like to keep hidden, tucking their nests away in dense cover. An open-fronted box placed low down and out of sight is just their style. (1/4)

All week the North York Moors have been ablaze with heather burning. We all have to breath the smoke filled air just so a few rich people can obliterate grouse with a shotgun. Its 2025!!

Ok. So it’s grey and wet and when I went out with the recycling just now it was definitely sleeting. It’s another ‘beast from the east’ for the next few days. It just depends how severe it gets. Stay safe and warm folks. I won’t be gardening today. ☹️

My new (third) netted plant cage arrived yesterday. It’s a different design to the previous two. Will need a fourth before spring but need to check this one out first. Unfortunately the head ache I woke with is still with me, so cage erection will have to wait.
