Taught Jesmyn Ward's MEN WE REAPED in my @plnuwritingma.bsky.social nonfiction workshop - a researched memoir that combines Ward's personal story of growing up in Mississippi, and how, in a four year span, racism and other societal oppressions killed five young Black men with whom she was close.

Last night my @plnuwritingma.bsky.social fiction workshop discussed Jesmyn Ward's SALVAGE THE BONES. We mapped how each chapter directly references or indirectly connects to MEDEA by Euripides. A fascinating exercise from which we learned how to integrate existent stories into our own fiction.

I ordered a boba tea & the barista was like "how much sugar do you want?" to which I (unfamiliar with which sugar metrics I should be considering) was like, "um, just make it how you prefer, I guess?" & then 2 minutes later she passed me a boba tea & said "70% sugar" & WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN???
