One of the best things I do each year is advise National History Day. This program does more for history ed in my small school than anything else. Cutting this funding has no other goal than cruelty and power from our fascist government. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/a...

Lincoln at Cooper Union, 1860 “Your purpose, then, plainly stated, is that you will destroy the government, unless you be allowed to construe and enforce the Constitution as you please, on all points in dispute between you and us. You will rule or ruin in all events.”

This needs to be sustained, though. Not a single US media source is picking this up with any seriousness.

Shout out to Jeffrey Goldberg for reporting on this now instead of waiting two years to put it in a book.

Call on your reps who are veterans, especially R reps, and demand them to call for resignations. This war plans leak has to cross a line for some of them.

This needs to be the only thing we hear for a month straight.

This is a crime. And is we think he’s not just softening the populace for when he starts sending US citizens there we’re kidding ourselves.

Some history: Columbia was founded as King's College by the British 👑 in 1754. During the Revolution, it was eyed as a prize by both patriots & royalists. Most trustees & faculty sided with the British. It was eventually seized by King's forces & occupied, used as a British military hospital.

Musk and Trump could not possibly be sending a clearer signal that the Tesla protests are working than this pathetic stunt today.

This is the best one yet.

This is spot on. And even worse, the boot lickers know exactly what topic get their dear leader fired up. Why else with the suit comment? And that’s what drives foreign policy in America.

This 1000%. We don’t always have to on the reaction side of things.

Something that’s very clear is that Trump is old and checked out. He wants to play the role of president but has zero interest in doing the job and is happy to outsource the real work to Musk, Vought and a crew of feral zealots.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

“We are the law”. Shaking my damn head.

Them: we have a mandate from the people to kill democracy and enact a monarchy. The “mandate”:

Nichols does a great job here. The blatant lack of knowledge in actual governing is blatantly obvious. I particularly like his take that Trump is so weak he feels he needs an unelected billionaire to enforce his exec orders for him.

What can I say? It's important to learn history. I'll keep teaching it if they let me, and probably even if they don't.

Yeah there really are two realities this country is living.

Let’s be very clear: what this means is that he thinks Ukraine, upon being invaded, should have surrendered immediately and docilely submitted to the ensuing campaign of ethnic cleansing and erasure of Ukrainian identity. And that is his “bargaining position” going in to “talks”.

Nobody gets money except the richest man in the world.

I am finding it very hard to go in every day and teach about proportional representation or some stupid shit while the country burns at the hands of psycho fascists. How are teachers, especially those of American history and politics, supposed to handle any of this?

These people are just the stupidest people. Remember this is the meritocracy president. Unrelated, but does Elon always have a kid with him so ppl won’t yell at him? Is he trying to foster the “good dad” image?

This is so breathtakingly vile.

Musk is rumored to spend $40M on Super Bowl ads with his wildly distorted claims attacking USAID. Don’t believe them. The last round are debunked below. wapo.st/3ErHBZM And I'll unpack the reality in this 🧵, too. 1/13

Tonight's history lesson: Amid all the concerns raised about our current state of constitutional chaos, a few points deserve special mention. Much of the constitutional thinking of the American revolutionary era had its deep origins in the political disputes of 17th-c. England.

"Trump is acting like a King, because he is too weak to govern like a president". Some good analysis from Ezra Klein. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/o...

Hear me out — If parents call colleges freaked about their FAFSA data being leaked, schools may have to issue statements — which would reach a whole lot more families about how warped this is. Organizing isn’t always calling electeds. Sometimes it’s just calling people with a bigger megaphone.

Ok now create a system. Circulate reps to other agencies. Do this every day. Do. Not. Let. Up.

Please, everyone, drop what you’re doing and read this:

Oooboy do I feel this on a daily basis when fielding questions from confused HS students.

The pro-free speech administration has so far removed 8,000 government websites that contain information that hurts their feelings.

The coming week very well might be the most consequential in modern American history. Human agency writes the story. This doesn’t have to progress like this.

I hope the lesson we learn out of this is that we don’t just need a strong Dem pres to come in after Trump and fix everything. We need a strong Congress to stand up and show some muscle, some reform spirit, and drastically change the direction.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment. One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

This is what Dems need to be screaming. Just make it your messaging every damn day. Create a media blitz plan, get the young house reps on the podcast circuit, hold up every possible procedure with the reminder that he’s an illegitimate pres who led a coup against the constitution.

This is very bad. This is a coup.

Que the “we didn’t think he’d actually do it” takes.

🏆 Governor Pritzker- Illinois - has signed an order prohibiting all J6 rioters from state employment.

Just a friendly reminder of who is actually revising the narrative here. Spoiler…it ain’t us.
