Just brutal

The cover of French magazine @lepoint.fr has it right.

It’s very strange living in a country led by actual Russian agents and criminal kleptocrats, but here we are. And the thing is, that’s not hyperbole, that truly is where we are.

RFK really missed the simplest lesson of LBJ’s career, try not to get any kids killed if your name rhymes with “how many kids did you kill today”

@brooklynbuckets.bsky.social Which team is 46-11, with a “historically good defense”, and playing at full strength, and which team is 21-36, with multiple players out? Crazy.

No notes

Measles cases in Texas this year, over 200.

Question: If Valentine’s Day is such a big deal, why aren’t Alternate Side Parking regulations suspended?

Daniel Sassoon, channeling Elliot Richardson. The whole letter is extraordinary. Brave and beautiful.

Seems relevant

RFK Jr. as health and human services secretary is just the stupidest thing. There are other things going on that are more corrupt and more dangerous (maybe), but for pure stupidity, this has to be near the top of the list.

Really fun to read. Especially in high school. Double especially Another Roadside Attraction. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/o...

10% of recycled paper in NYC gets turned into pizza boxes on Staten Island!! and other fun facts:

LeBron James is now both the youngest (19 years, 88 days) and the oldest (40 years, 39 days) player in NBA history to score 40+ points in a game.

Very good article, explaining the damage, on multiple levels, done by killing USAID. Harm and more harm. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/o...

Under the banner of “government efficiency,” U.S.-grown food and lifesaving medicine meant to help the world’s most vulnerable is instead rotting on cargo ships and in warehouses across the globe. @suzykhimm.bsky.social has the details: www.nbcnews.com/news/politic...

Sabotage. Criminal sabotage. "[The NSF] is planning to lay off between a quarter and a half of its staff in the next two months, a top National Science Foundation official said Tuesday." www.eenews.net/articles/sci...

More cruelty

Week three not looking any better than weeks one and two. Very, very bad.

Musk and Trump, spreading disease, increasing suffering.

Two consecutive posts on my BlueSky timeline. Coincidence? I think not.

No one elected Elon Musk. As Donald Trump allows Musk to access people’s personal information and shut down government funding, Republicans in Washington will also own the consequences. We must do everything in our power to push back and protect people from harm.

The tariffs are not good, but they are mostly the distraction from the really bad stuff—the takeover of the government personnel and (especially!!!) finance. It’s the autocracy and kleptocracy, hiding behind bad policy.

The Dallas trade of Luka Doncic has to be the worst NBA deal since the Nets gave up a decade of unprotected draft picks (turned into Tatum and others) for over the hill Garnett and Pierce.

I do not recall a 24 hour or one week news cycle with more disturbing news about the state of the presidency and the US government in it than those of today and the past seven days. January 6 was nothing compared to this. But make no mistake, this too is the gov't being torn apart by a mob of thugs.

I’m happy that Costco and the Teamsters settled without a strike. It doesn’t change the fact that Trump, Musk and their henchmen are tearing the country to shreds, but at least there’s no conflict between buying good peanut butter and potentially crossing a picket line.

This is heartbreaking and that is the point. Create as much chaos and misery as possible while creating a huge purse of $ to try and plunder.

This is a hostile takeover of the federal government by a private citizen of unlimited means with no restrictions and no transparency. Welcome to the Deep State www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

This is how autocrats throughout history have endangered the people they govern by erasing factual information vital to health and well being www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

This is what Trump’s cruelty and chaos has unleashed.

While many of these nominees are terrible, RFK Jr. is particularly infuriating to me, because his awfulness involves things that I know something about. Again, I truly hope he is not confirmed. If he is, it will only lead to harm. Less Health. Fewer Humans. Fewer Services.

This Kennedy person is truly horrible. The lack of knowledge, honesty, and sense is a terrible combination. I hope upon hope that he is not confirmed.

Today’s example of gratuitous stupid cruelty

So far: Purge of the Inspector Generals Leaving the WHO Pauses of NIH funding and CDC communications Suspension of multiple humanitarian immigration programs Cancellation of discount drug program Halting of anti discrimination law suits Abusive alcoholic unqualified Secretary of Defense confirmed

More cruelty. In every case, suffering with no benefit to anyone. What a fucking disaster. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/u...
