Birds on humans

The Green-winged Teal on the Top New Piece viewed from the Zeiss Hide @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social at lunchtime. Not always showing its diagnostic side view. #DodgyVid #GlosBirds #BirdsSeenIn2025

The Hamsfield Black Redstart still present at lunchtime today. #DodgyVid #GlosBirds #BirdsSeenIn2025

After departing from the ice-bound South Lake @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social for a few days the immature Spoonbill has returned. Showed well in front of the Hogarth Hide at lunchtime. #DodgyVid. #Glosbirds

In 2021, my wife Rachel & I bought a 7.5-acre plot of land in Brazil to donate to Brazilian NGO REGUA, established to protect & restore some of Brazil's remaining Atlantic Forest. The plot comprised 4.5 acres of existing rainforest & 2.5 acres of degraded scrub & pasture in need of reforestation.

@simonforstroud.bsky.social - just discovered that No 10 are playing party politics with essential wildlife protection measures and blocking beaver release. As my MP, please, please do what you can to educate Downing Street ‘officials’. We are in an existential crisis and being badly let down.

Gorgeous Redpoll feeding in the spinney @slimbridge_wild this morning. My first #DodgyVid of the year! #Glosbirds #BirdsSeenIn2025

Had to go back for a second look at the Frampton Yellow-browed Warbler, this time with camera. Such a confiding, busy bird. #GlosBirds #BirdsSeenIn2025

My Bird of the Year has to be Brazilian Merganser. A lifer duck and a very rare one at that. Took some finding but we had an amazing scout/guide in Chico, one of the dedicated researchers working so hard to protect this enigmatic species. With @zootherabirding.bsky.social #DucksRock

Moustached Woodcreeper is listed as 'vulnerable' so was happy to get good views in Peruacu NP, even if getting an unimpeded photo wasn't quite as easy, and to add it to the list of #BirdsSeenIn2024 for #Brazil. Seen on my trip with @zootherabirding.bsky.social in September.

Fork-tailed Flycatcher was a species encountered several times on the trip to #Brazil in September, it's a widespread and not particularly rare bird, so I was surprised to see it was still missing from the lists of #BirdsSeenIn2024. Looking forward to next year's challenge being here on BlueSky.

Two more for the last ditch efforts to fill in gaps in the #Brazil lists of #BirdsSeenIn2024, from X, hopefully next year's challenge will be here. Greater (first two pics) and Rufous-fronted (second two) Thornbirds. Taken at Pompeu in Minas Gerais in September. From my trip with @zootherabirding

Bellbirds are known for their loud clear calls, which carry for miles, but often are seen only at the top of the canopy through a 'scope. Was delighted to get even half decent views of White Bellbird in Carajas NP #Brazil during my trip in September. For the tail end of #BirdsSeenIn2024 over on X

Happy Solstice everyone!

There were some periods of beautiful weather @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social yesterday. Perfect for showing up the long staying immature Spoonbill that woke up for long enough to have a preen alongside one of 9 Cattle Egret that were also present early afternoon. #DodgyVid #GlosBirds

Was delighted to find this female Goosander on South Lake @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social yesterday. An unusual occurrence there. #DodgyVid #DucksRock #GlosBirds

Going to try and cross-post my nature posts on here as well as the other place while I create a new habit! Will also have to re-establish my trademark # tag for my Phone-scoped videos! So here's my #DodgyVid of a female Kingfisher at @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social yesterday. #GlosBirds

I know there were lots of #Brazilian sign-ups during the X ban earlier in the year. If there any Dragonfly ( #Odonata) experts here an ID on this one would be appreciated. Taken in Caraca National Park in September. Thanks. 😊

Have a wonderful Wednesday! Take time to watch birds, so very good for our mental health. Birds give us a break from the stress of our busy lives. Be kind today, we need more kindness in the world. Chestnut-crowned Antpitta #Ecuador #wednesdaymotivations #birdwatching #birding #ukbirding

Garganey in front of Martin Smith Hide @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social this morning. #GlosBirds #DucksRock
