I simply do not understand how a NEWS ORGANIZATION is basically existing in a stage of siege but very rarely conveys in its political coverage that we are in a state of emergency

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago: —Pioneering cancer researcher; —*Arrested* at airport in Boston; —Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana; —"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research. Read it. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Odds are, this latest story will sink as fast as the original did, after the Trump regime lies with enough force and ruthlessness that the press drops it.

I knew the U.S. higher education system was a massive draw for foreigners, but I did not know the U.S. sold more educational services to the rest of the world than it did natural gas and coal combined. Great piece by @crampell.bsky.social

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

This seems ominous.

Nothing to see here….

Democrats meeting with political detainees is an extremely positive trend and should be encouraged and celebrated

It's almost like they didn't want to believe he has dementia, then realized hoo boy, the man's demented, but now it's too late.

Not to state the obvious, but none of them were sent to a terrorist prison in El Salvador. They all had lawyers, indictment by grand jury, a trial or a guilty plea where a judge ensured it was knowing & voluntary & access to an appeals process. In other words, all the hallmarks of due process.

Abrego Garcia has never even been charged with a crime. Donald Trump, in contrast, has been convicted, by a jury, of 34 felonies.

"We cannot give everyone a trial," says the president of these United States.

Remember that the following GOP Senators who are up for re-election next year were each the deciding vote to confirm Pete Hegseth: Thom Tillis Joni Ernst Dan Sullivan Ashley Moody Jon Husted John Cornyn They KNEW was unqualified for Defense Secretary and they put our troops in danger anyway.

Guess you shouldnt have worked so hard to get him elected again then, AG 🤷‍♂️

How did Kristi Noem, a cabinet official with Secret Service protection, get her purse snatched, losing her DHS badge, passport, and maybe her phone? That's now a security risk. If she'd asked the SS to stand down to give her privacy, then the public needs to know who was she having dinner with. 1/

Congrats MAGA. This is what you voted for

It seems to me that a president who is deliberately shaking up Wall Street for no apparent reason other than the fact that he can is a president whose mental health we should question.

Another self inflicted stock market/dollar wound courtesy of His Magasty (threatening to fire the Fed Chair). The damage he's done to the USA's reputation in the global economy will take years to fix. When will the GOP show some bravery and stop him? Clearly never.

I would appreciate it if Trump stopped disappearing my 401k.

The Thai king appointing his own dog Fufu as supreme marshal of the national air force now ranks as the second poorest military staffing decision this century

This screenshot is the smoking gun. The Defense Secretary—on Signal—live texting classified strike times to people without the proper clearance. Hegseth’s defense? Blame a “disgruntled employee” and bash the media. And the White House is still standing by him. 1/2

Trump is following through on his pledge to lower prices

the $3000 in cash was what she charges for dog assassinations

This is a very, very complex and exceedingly thorough process that involves extensive use of the president’s TiVo remote, so please, please, everyone, give it time www.npr.org/2025/04/21/n...

Just incredible that a sitting Senator can say something like this with every expectation that such comments will not be grounds for bipartisan calls for his immediate resignation or removal from office.

NPR reports that White House is searching for new defense secretary reut.rs/4jIUiiq

Secret Service doing the absolute least. www.cnn.com/2025/04/21/p...

Last week, DHS and Secretary Noem's staff and spokespeople suggested that because Mr. Abrego Garcia had $1,100 in cash on him when arrested outside Home Depot seeking day labor, that was strong evidence that he was a member of MS-13. I guess that raises a similar question about her $3,000.

Regardless of how one feels about the Catholic Church or about Pope Francis, now is a time to come together to claim that JD Vance killed him

The vibe that Dems are poll-tested cowards with no underlying principles will persist at least as long as they insist on maintaining that image themselves bsky.app/profile/murs...

How do you get on Signal. I want to tell Pete Hegseth that his suits suck

The death and funeral of The Pope is going to consume international media coverage. Make sure to pay attention to what this administration is doing during this time

It’s hilarious that the one part of Hesgeth’s paper-thin resume that might have plausibly been an asset — communication skills — has repeatedly been his downfall.

Lots of news today but let’s hope DC press doesn’t overlook this important story about Trump’s nominee for US Surgeon General

Every single service member and veteran, if they’re being honest, will all tell you the exact same thing: We’d be immediately burned at the stake if we treated classified intel the way Pete Hegseth has treated it.

That’s one hell of an exit line.

Do not confuse your due process argument with whether someone is a good person or not Trump and his cronies are trying to trick you into arguing about whether this person has a gang tattoo and the correct answer is "it doesn't matter"

Let’s hope they put the papal conclave on Signal chat. That would be fun.

If you're in the Lake Charles area this Wednesday, please join me at 4 pm at the Calcasieu Parish Library for a talk about my new book, "You Are My Sunshine: Jimmie Davis and the Biography of Song." calcasieulibrary.org/event/13199358

amazing that he thought this would stop people from saying he killed him

If you know, you know

Donald Trump is torturing people on US soil.

Is there a German word for “the inability to mask one’s contempt for terrible people?” As a fellow sufferer, I felt a certain kinship with Pope Francis. RIP.

NPR's Science Desk editor wrote this with four other @npr.org reporters, giving Makary 311 words and Weldon 488, doing some reporting on them. But they seemed to just creduously transcribe basic info about Nesheiwat (174 words), with no reporting. What did they miss? 1/2 www.npr.org/sections/sho...

This feels like bounty hunting.

"We can't defend Abrego Garcia personally because he might be a criminal, we're just defending due process generally" is dereliction of duty because defending Abrego Garcia personally LITERALLY IS due process. The process he's due is literally a defense. We should defend both due process AND HIM.

Just keep in mind: The day will come when America is no longer held hostage by a sociopath, a convicted felon, an arsonist and a vengeful, narcissistic sadist who revels in the pain and suffering of others and builds his fortune on the ruins of public liberty. May it come soon.
