““[T]his surprising win in the biggest swing state in the country should be a reminder that we don’t have to accept that Trump and his allies will prevail. We have agency, and we aren’t alone in being repulsed by what we are seeing in Washington.”

There is a special election today, and it is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT! This vote will determine which party controls the PA House. Get out and vote!

One year VAP in poetry at Notre Dame:

[I'm not sure why the drone add-ons' country of origin was important, but] this type of omniviolence is something we as a nation should get ahead of. The solutions seem pretty simple, especially considering the cost.

People talking about the shocking Facebook book right now so this is just a reminder that I kinda wrote a Facebook book after my own couple years of superweird experiences at FB HQ, and you can read about them in HEAD CLEANER, which is being re-released in January by @daturabooks.bsky.social!

Wrote a quick and dirty illustrated explainer on The Department of Education because if I have to hear any more misinformation about it I'm going to lose my goddamn mind. open.substack.com/pub/aubreyhi...

The thing that everyone thinks is nuts, but I absolutely think would work: a presentation that looked like an Apple keynote product launch, but for all the cool shit that the government makes for people. Cancer treatments, national parks, space discoveries, free tax filing, cool new airports.

Today is the final day to submit to the AHP Fiction Prize! www.autumnhouse.org/submissions/...

I can't recommend this flash essay enough. Short Reads is the gift that keeps giving. www.short-reads.org/dig/?ref=sho...

I just signed up for all 3, featuring @mdbell79.bsky.social, ZZ Packer, and @kristenarnett.bsky.social. Very, very excited for this. They've extended the deadline if you're a busy/ procrastinator like me!

Love the short essays on Wednesdays from @short-reads.org (sign up to get them in your in-box for free if you don't yet). I'm enjoying their CNF flash prompts this month too. #flashfebruary Take a look if you need some inspiration: flashfebruary.substack.com

Great author! I teach his essays often, and students really respond to them.

I keep seeing this. Guys, their literal job is to figure out what to do. They are not helpless even if they are not the majority. I really hope we can stop treating some of the most powerful people in the world as helpless and without sentience.

Watching people like this dismantle our once world-leading science infrastructure in just weeks, like someone trying to make a car run faster by randomly tearing parts out of the engine and mumbling, "What is all this stuff?"

I quite enjoyed this movie. It's been a long, long time since I disliked the ending of a horror movie based on its theme, as opposed to plot. The writing and acting is outstanding. Don't know much about Sophie Thatcher & Chloe East, but they certainly hold their own against Grant.

Excited to have a new piece in the Chronicle of Higher Ed (@chronicle.com). I’ve been in so many exchanges with people who’ve never heard anything happy about university presses. So I wrote an essay to share with them.

Just a tax reminder to my fellow writers that you should be deducting EVERYTHING you possibly can that’s related to your writerly activities. Agent commissions, a percentage of your home expenses for a home work space (incld utilities), books, office supplies, conference/research expenses etc. etc.
