Having a mate called Danny whose nickname is Danzo, “cuz he’s the king of Lanzo”.

I don’t know how McCartney Legacy 2 manages to be such an enjoyably thrilling page turner when it’s literally like ‘and then he got a new drummer’

Huge fan of Paul McCartney’s disguise when he went to see George Harrison play Madison Square Garden in 1974

I uploaded this last night. Might be of interest to Beatles fans who want a little 'of its time' account of John's comments. I remember it was no big deal at all in the UK at the time and there was scant coverage in the music press.

‘I can’t even touch the books you’ve read’ – Bob Dylan, ‘The Idiot Wind’

Now playing: The Bird & the Word by @robinallender.bsky.social from 2007. Not played it for ages and it still sounds lovely: autumnal English freak folk of the highest order.

John Updike knew what the fuck he was on about.

Tomorrow! Mirrored Daughters at the Harrison in Kings Cross with @robinallender.bsky.social and Watch Paint Dry. Tickets available (including concessions and LP bundles): wegottickets.com/event/645058

Would love to go to Mamma Mia! The Party and check out this ten-string guitar

(One of) the (many) problem(s) with Substack is that after I’ve posted something I immediately spot loads of typos. So here’s my updated post on A Real Pain, and other things. open.substack.com/pub/robinall...

Saw Jordan Brookes’s show Fontanelle at Soho Theatre last night. Absolutely hilarious, I loved it.

New Substack here about Neko Case and A Real Pain and some other bits and bobs robinallender.substack.com/p/the-holy-f...

I’m really enjoying Tony Tulathimutte’s Rejection – it’s very funny and outrageous and clever. The problem I’m finding with it is that it’s so internetty that it sort of doesn’t feel that different from checking my phone which is not really what I want from a book.

Brian Eno's "Ambient 1" only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it went on to start an airport.

When signs have evidently read far too much twentieth-century continental philosophy:

All Things Must Pass is such a great ten-track album. Shame there aren’t more songs on it but I suppose it’s best to be concise.

Little re-up for this ambient tune I released on Friday

How have I only just noticed that the melody of Blues Run the Game by Jackson C. Frank sounds like this youtu.be/ur7GnxTkS-M?...

94-96 was such a fascinating era for music with the grunge/Britpop crossover. Just remembered an interview with an American musician where he said he couldn’t believe a band with the name Menswear were being taken seriously. He was in Mudhoney.

Next show: Feb 26th at The Harrison (nr Kings Cross) - it's the Mirrored Daughters album launch, with support from @robinallender.bsky.social and @watchpaintdry.bsky.social. Come join us: advance tickets from wegottickets.com/fikarecordings

I remember the first time Pachelbel played me his Canon, and I was like it’s good man, but it’s a bit fucking obvious mate – anyway shows how much I know I guess!

I have a new ambient tune out today. Run yourself a deep bath and have a listen. robinallender.bandcamp.com/track/unlit-...

Quantum mechanics feels like something a big tech grifter invented. "Uhh it only works when nobody is looking at it"

Every time I take my Bluetooth earphones out, I think about @robinallender.bsky.social’s bejewelled ingots in their vanity trove comment. Then I’m thinking about thinking about that for at least a song. As irksome as getting the bloody ingots back into their vanity trove, tbh.

What is all this shit about going to the cinema, you know you can watch films AT HOME!!!

On this month’s Allender Calendar I had the great pleasure of talking to the comedian Josie Long about her brilliant book of short stories Because I Don’t Know What You Mean and What You Don’t pod.fo/e/2ab3ec

I feel like it’s fairly easy to not do an advert for McDonalds. I’m not doing one right now.
