I’m putting it out there: finishing the full draft of my novel in the next 30 days (15K words to go) so it will be done by my birthday. Greatest present to myself.

This Saturday: Free Flash Fiction Workshop taught by me! Sign up: docs.google.com/forms/u/1/d/...

I’m pretty motivated until a journal asks me to put my contact info on the first page of my submission. I’m like ok byeeee.

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

Whenever I feel I’m doing so well submitting my dinky flash pieces I remember R.F. Kuang is only 28 and it ruins my day lol.

On a positive but also kinda sad note: got a free pastry at the library today because they organized a board game day and no one showed up :( pastry was delicious so everyone missed out. Go to the library!!

Second phd rejection had me RUNNING to the store to get ice cream and I got home and it tasted terrible so I cried. How was everyone else’s day lol.

Teaching a workshop for the Popfic Collective on February 22nd about Flash and Micro! Open to all and free (: you can sign up here if you’re interested! www.thepopficcollective.org/webinars-and...

Finished my first #ARC for #100smallpress books. As someone who’s been living with chronic pain for five years now after an accident, I felt seen by the representation in “Stuck on the Slopes” by @jessicasalina.bsky.social from @conquestpublishing.bsky.social If you’re a romance reader, get it!

First PhD rejection made me cry until my roommate said: “what you going to do in Ohio anyway? Be cold?” Real.

What’s your favorite micro you’ve read recently? Teaching a flash/micro class soon and looking for a fun one to include 👀

Literally wondered for like 10 minutes what Columbia University has to do with coffee beans. In other news: if anyone needs a copyeditor, I’m available 😊

It’s giving “10 years ago on this date you were in a relationship with the worst human on the planet. Want to see more?”

I fucking LOVE the library. Did you know you can borrow a sewing machine at some? Take a 3D printing class? Free ESL classes (I teach some 😊), immigration resources?

Starting today, same-sex marriage is officially legalized in Thailand. It’s the first country in Southeast Asia to recognize marriage equality.

SO EXCITED TO START. Never got an ARC before! 👀

Teaching adult ESL speakers is so funny because they’ll refuse to call me anything other than teacher out of respect, then completely roast me lol

Plea for more small press amazing book covers like this. As someone who judges a book by its cover (sorry 👀) it helps a lotttttt when it looks good.

Cw: babies 😭 honestly, this is how I feel when someone asks if I wanna hold their child lol. What an iconic piece by @sashabrown.bsky.social splitlipthemag.com/flash/0125/s...

Here are some, but hardly all, of the #100smallpress reviewers. We're all eager to shine a light on the voices our indie presses support. If you've a forthcoming book with a small press, fill out the author form on Miriam's website and help us find you!

Ah yes, of course I need to take a language test to prove I know enough English to pursue higher education in the US after just completing an MFA creative writing in the US. Yes, that makes total sense, actually.

The 2024 results are in: - 147 rejections - 4 acceptances - 1 competition shortlist - 1 competition finalist My first year of serious submissions. I’m pretty pleased (: maybe next year I’ll….get paid???? 👀 a girl can dream

My first acceptance for a print journal!!! Set this as a 2025 goal only a couple of days ago 😭

Seems counterproductive to put a university application deadline beginning of January and then close the university for an entire month before that

I’m officially a reviewer working on the #100smallbooks project! If anyone has/knows of a book coming out (December 2024-November 2025) in the realm of #romance from a small #independentpress, let me know below! I’d love to review you!! Doesn’t have to be traditional romance!

A $100 application fee for internationals on top of the $70 PhD application fee like is this not a crime????

Unfortunately didn’t make it into the magazine, however, if anyone knows a good place to send a micro that’s been shortlisted for two contests, third time’s the charm? 👀 congrats to the finalists I’m only a little jealous 😭
