Business isn’t hard because the work is hard. It’s hard because of the second-guessing: Am I using the right tools? Am I wasting money? Could I have done this better myself? Why didn’t I trust what I already had? Most of the pain is mental. The work itself is rarely the problem.

Because: Texas.

Freelancers love to brag about the grind... until their voice cracks, their inbox explodes, and they forget what day it is. Take a damn break. You’re not a robot. (And even robots need maintenance.) Happy Friday! #voiceover #freelance #VOlife #restiswork #burnoutisreal

Don’t just hustle. Don’t just wander. Walk with intention. Every audition, every email, every rep behind the mic— make it mean something. Momentum’s easy. Direction takes discipline. #voiceover #VOlife #intention #freelancepath #stayonthepath

You’ll audition hundreds of times. Most won’t lead anywhere. No callback. Just silence. That silence is where the edge gets sharpened. You don’t rise in spite of failure. You rise because of it. #voiceover #VOlife #auditions #growthpath #voiceactor

If you don’t fight for good rates, you teach the industry you're fine working for scraps. Know your value. Charge accordingly. And walk away when it’s wrong. You’re not just protecting your worth— you’re protecting ours. #voiceover #VOlife #KnowYourWorth #rates #freelancewarrior

Congrats on the fancy mic. Still sounds like you’re reading. Gear doesn’t make you a voice actor. Training does. Stop polishing the car if you can’t drive. #voiceover #VOlife #truthhurts #voiceactor #readthecopybetter

I have so many questions.

Your voice is only part of the job. The rest is showing up, staying ready, and delivering under pressure. Talent opens the door. Professionalism keeps it open. #voiceover #VOlife #voiceactor #freelance

"Recommended for streaming" 😆

Stop hitting record the second you open the script. You’re not “capturing spontaneity.” You’re just recording guesswork. Read the whole thing. Out loud. Then hit record like a pro. Rehearsal isn’t extra. It’s the job. #voiceover #auditions #VOtips #rehearsebeforeyourecord #voiceactor

VO is not magic. It’s not a good mic or a deep voice. It’s hours behind the mic. Coaching. Failing. Tweaking. Repeating. No shortcut, no hack. You want this life? Put in the work. The mic hears everything— including your discipline. #voiceover #VOlife #freelance #putinthework #voiceactor

Anybody notice how when you click Zoom, the "sign on" button switches to "Contact sales" right around the time you would naturally click on "sign on"? You can bet money they did that on purpose.

DONT TRAIN YOUR REPLACEMENT

Hey Backstage - I've "unsubscribed" from your daily emails 4 different times but Im still getting your emails about jobs that dont exist. Now Ive told my email you're spam. You had a chance to make this right, but you failed.

I’m writing a new book specifically for voice actors who are past the beginner stage. Not a “how to start” guide, this one’s for the folks who’ve been at it a while and know how tough the path can get. More soon.

ASMR is for people who never had to do a line check on a concert stage in a stadium.

Hurricane season starts today. Just a reminder:

"If you're not getting better, you're getting worse, because the artists around you are getting better." -Paul Schmidt.

Voice actors: what are you doing right now. RIGHT NOW to move your business forward? Good things might come to those who wait, But better things come to those who get off their asses.

Im co-hosting a workshop this week on how to get started as a voiceover artist in this modern technological world. If you're interested, hit me up.

Its amazing how much you can accomplish around the house under the threat of someone coming over.

OK, Im a HUGE Star Wars fan, but this will forever be the weakest, most eggregious plot hole in modern cinema.

Downloaded a new game to Steam, only to find out it uses an AI DJ on the in-game radio stations. Sorry, but Im not playing any game that excludes human voices. Uninstalled and deleted. #HireHuman

One of the most iconic guitar riffs (technically an arpeggio) in music.

"Constructive Frustration" Leaving a coaching session and identifying PRECISELY what you're doing wrong, but not being able to get your head to think any other way. The more you practice, the more you identify what can change. Knowing yourself can be important.

Vader's voice sounds like it was trained from all the impersonators out there that likely gave their voices away for pennies. voicefilm.com/fortnite-has...

Oh look: the idiots are talking on Twitter.

Taking the time to properly perpare for your audition is the first step in the process. Read on. www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-re...

Call me weird, but I always thought it was strange that we tip the server, but not the chef.

Im secretly super excited by the new GTA VI coming out next year. Not for the story mode, but to be able to free roam in that big, beautiful world. Wow.

You ever look at a startup's marketing campaign and think, "they're totally doing it wrong"? Im watching a brand try to make a name for themselves and their marketing is just abyssmal.

I swear: instagram is just one long streaming feed of commercials for voice actors and coaches.

A shit microphone in an acoustically-treated space can sound pretty good. A really good microphone in an untreated space will sound like shit. Conclusion: The space is more important than the mic.

Rosehaven studios in Houston Texas should be ashamed of themselves. They expect the person that brings their game character to life to work for free...while they profit.

If I survive this year, I'd like my straightjacket to be purple, please.
