Last cast of the evening, and look what has wrapped its tail around my bait.

Pogacar hasn’t eaten a gel for a while. Going to lose it at the last.

First cuckoo.

The new LNG-powered @brittanyferries.bsky.social St.Malo. Very good night’s sleep compared to the old St.Malo.

The end of estuarine, coastal and ocean science in the US is in sight www.science.org/content/arti...

Algal bloom of enormous magnitude has developed off the Danish west coast over the past week. The chlorophyll values saturate the satellite algorithm and a brown-green discoloration is easily visible in an RGB image.

Seagrass and seaweed questions on University Challenge this evening. That's three points for me, thank you very much.

A two-ship sampling day on the Humber oceanography course. Anchor station on my boat, with the Humber Guardian taking plankton samples nearby.

A good start to oceanography training week on the Humber with a series of stations between Grimsby and Hull. Those wind turbine nacelles and towers are huge.

Congrats to Dr Catherall who passed his viva with minor corrections. May have over celebrated last night

For today's Teesside Lead... I spoke to a marine biologist from the University of Hull about how the 2021 Tees crustacean mortalities helped the response to this week's North Sea collision.

Today the Rewild research group is at The Deep aquarium in Hull talking all things rewilding. Lots to get involved in! #Colliderfest @universityofhull.bsky.social

I’m going to start this off strong with one of my all time favourite finds in a benthic sample. Look at the size of this Arctica islandica! Can you work out how old it is by counting the number of yearly growth rings?

It's find-a-PhD season and here is a very topical one with @grockesibl.bsky.social at Durham. www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DMH221/p...

Trump regime starting to close in on NOAA's atmospheric CO2 monitoring at Mauna Loa, home of the Keeling curve; Musk proposes to end the lease of its support office on the island to "save $150k per year". www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

The people who produce this Mauna Loa atmospheric CO₂ record have a lab in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, about 50 miles (80 km) from the observatory. By closing the lab, it'll be really difficult to maintain the CO₂ observations.
