When Pie Town got a post office, the government wanted to change the name, but locals responded that they would prefer to go without a post office than to change the name, so it is Pie Town to this day...with a post office (and pie). #NewMexico #roadtrip #travel #daytrip #OffTheBeatenPath

The VLA, Very Large Array, a radio astronomy observatory. The VLA is located in central New Mexico, on the Plains of San Agustin, about 50 miles west of Socorro. You might recognize it from the film "Contact" starring Jodie Foster.

By 1884, Kelly had banks, churches, saloons, a clinic, and several mercantile stores. Magdalena was established 3 miles north as the AT & SF Railway terminus to haul away the ore from Kelly's mines. The last residents of Kelly departed in 1947. Most structures were hauled to Magdalena. #NewMexico
