China plans crackdown on air pollution in a "battle for blue skies," as government targets end to "severe" air pollution by end of 2025 www.reuters.com/business/env...

A beautiful day in Hendersonville, blue skies, 69 degrees. Get outside. #WNC

🚨 Now CCN-official 🚨 Trump issues stop-work-order to NASA chief scientist #KateCalvin, who is also co-chair of the IPCC's working group in charge of the next assessment on climate change mitigation. This is brutal, on so many levels. edition.cnn.com/2025/02/21/c...

An incomparable talent. Just an absolutely brilliant musician, songwriter and icon. She was born right down the road from Asheville in Black Mountain, and there’s a fantastic mural of her there at Black Mountain Brewing (painted by Scott Nurkin). pitchfork.com/news/roberta...

Just in one year, just the clean air act, prevented hundreds of thousands of early deaths. The lowest possible estimate of the benefits found that benefits outweigh the costs by 3 to 1. The most likely estimate is 30 to 1. The high estimate is 90 to 1. Ninety. Nine Zero. www.epa.gov/clean-air-ac...

Good Cory Doctorow today, on the ludicrous models that utilities & their consultants use to justify rate hikes.

Check out our new Polar Vortex Blog! Though parts of the US have been very cold and snowy, experts do not think there's much evidence that the polar vortex is the main driver of our winter weather so far this year. www.climate.gov/news-feature...

When my 20 yr old AC went out it seemed heat pumps were the only things being recommended. The technology has improved, greater efficiency even at cold temperatures, although we don't get that cold in NC. A perfect match, so along with the AC we replaced the 30 year old gas furnace.

70% of Americans live in single family homes allowing them to charge at home. 99% of US drivers drive less than 100 miles per day (avg 21 mi/day) well within the single charge range.

This is how we get our weather forecasts, it all starts with @noaa.gov @nws.noaa.gov www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Xx...

Looks like a great week ahead. Get outdoors! #WNCwx

To understand the magnitude of this loss, I was a biologist specializing in the recovery of federally endangered plants & their habitat in western NC, a region catastrophically damaged by Hurricane Helene. With my role eliminated, Helene recovery efforts in Asheville just got even more challenging.

Shutting down already installed infrastructure isn't "efficiency," it's sabotage electrek.co/2025/02/21/t...

This new blossom greeted me this morning. After a week with the flu nature is showing me her beauty and pulling me outdoors with abundant sunshine and warming temperatures this week. #WNCwx

How do you know you are no longer living in Buffalo? They closed the Hendersonville Schools. #WNCwx

No snow yet in Hendersonville. Buncombe County Schools are on remote learning, Henderson County Schools are closed. #WNCwx

Western North Carolina weather, yesterday and today. #WNCwx

"These are not faceless agencies just taking your taxpayer money and sending it on fire. They're providing real value and service to you and your community": Eric Berger of @spacecitywx.bsky.social on potential DOGE cuts at NOAA. www.chron.com/gulf-coast/a...

Yesterday and today, a brief look at the weather. #WNCwx

Wife and I both staying home today, her on the bed, me on the couch. Cold/Flu? We're both vaccinated hoping this is mild and passes quickly. Flu vaccines prevent an estimated 7.5 million illnesses, 105,000 hospitalizations, and 63,000 deaths across the country per year.

Just a shot of sun to brighten your day. #WNCwx

Local weather forecasts calling for snow beginning Wednesday morning and changing over to a mix in the afternoon with temperatures in the mid 30's. Here's a look at predicted WNC snow totals from @nws.noaa.gov #WNCwx

The Trump administration is targeting scientists and unlawfully seizing control of the NOAA, the agency responsible for monitoring and issuing weather alerts. Here’s how this move could have widespread consequences if the administration follows through with the plans laid out in #Project2025.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said all of the state's 120 counties were impacted by the storm. "The biggest challenge of this event is it's everywhere."

That sun was short lived, here comes the rain followed by temps in the 40's. Expect overnight temps to fall into the mid 20's. Wed could bring a couple inches of snow. Temps this week will be cold. #WNCwx #Avl #hvl

Enjoying a cup of coffee on the back porch. Sunny and 57 but clouds will return and temperatures will drop.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

The US Dept of Ed website has been turned into a Trump PR site, glorifying all Trump. This is a disgrace. Look, as a former teacher I have no love for the Ed Dept and the No Child Left Behind legacy that replaced teaching with testing. I'd rather see it gone than this. www.ed.gov

What does NOAA cost you? NOAA costs about $3/year/person. Just looking at the NWS. NWS issues 1.5 million forecasts/year & 50 thousand weather warnings/year. This doesn't include forecasts, watches, warnings from the SPC, NHC or other NOAA agencies. That's a good return! #SpectrumNews1 #ncwx #NOAA

A little bit of light rain just entering Asheville & Hendersonville. Looks like most of this will pass to the north. #WNCwx

Seems right. #Birds 🪶

Valentine's Day Cow Art

Clear but chilly in Asheville this morning. 32 degrees. Light freezing rain possible in the mountains tomorrow.

One of our supporters shared this with us—people are getting creative tonight!

2.5" of rain from noon on Wednesday to 4 AM Thursday resulted in several inches of water in my crawlspace. I think it's gotten worse since Helene. Time to call the professionals. #WNCwx

Let's have some fun with Google.
