I enjoyed 'A Complete Unknown' very much indeed. Plays fast and loose with some of the historical facts but basically it's a cracking vehicle to hear afresh some of the greatest songs of the last century. Well worth a look.

In every dream home a heartache. Spotted this gorgeous 1950s retro room on display at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin. #retro #design #dublin #1950s

Hi folks, One for all the ageing B-Boys and Fly Gals out there. An early Eighties Electro playlist to accompany the latest blog and podcast. Link: bit.ly/4gxxpMX Feel free to bust a move etc.

New in the shops forty-five years ago this week. Neutron Records present "1980: The First Fifteen Minutes" starring DVA, I'm So Hollow, Stunt Kites and Vice Versa.

Midweek plug for my latest blog & podcast episode. A trip to Bedford Boys Club to see Cabaret Voltaire in the summer of 1984. Links: blog - www.mylifeinthemoshofghosts.com podcast - pods.to/ex8mxwr YouTube - bit.ly/4aKSimy

To The Light House in Dublin for 'The Brutalist'. It worked for me. Terrific story-telling, wonderful performances and stunning photography. Don't tell the long running time put you off. (Thrilled to see a smashing Brutalist building outside the cinema too.) #thebrutalist

Thank you so much to @rcommendr.bsky.social for this glowing endorsement. I am very grateful indeed for the kind words.

Thank you @steve-dale.bsky.social Doyen of both Sheffield and Chicago, for this lovely bit of support and encouragement. 👍

80s Soulboys and girls were thin on the ground in Blanchardstown yesterday. Really enjoyed the new Luther Vandross doc. I remembered the hits and the Bowie connection. Didn’t know about his time on Sesame Street, the beer ads, the Chic sessions and the traumatic manslaughter charge. Worth a look.

Thanks to a tip on here, I've discovered another good place to discover and share interesting cultural stuff. Would heartily recommend @rcommendr.bsky.social And I'd like to thank them for being so kind about my podcast. You can't beat good word-of-mouth.

Very happy to see The Light House bring 'Sing Sing' back to the big screen. Really enjoyed it, I was waiting for at least one of the usual Big House cliches to arrive on screen but they never did.

Recorded on this day in 1975. Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert. #onthisday

22nd January 1980. I was at the Blitz Club, upstairs in the function room for the George IV pub, to see one of Sheffield's great unsung bands - Vendino Pact. #sheffield #onthisday #postpunk

A happy place. The National Gallery in Dublin when they open the doors in a morning and you are one of the first people in. Like a private showing. Free entry too.

15/1/1980. Sheffield. Urban Tech, 3 synth-wielding steel-workers from Scunthorpe. A rumour went around that Urban Tech was the Cabs doing a secret gig. Blitz regulars were saddened to witness a night of derivative electronic Winalot – “The Numan League” as one observer witheringly described them.

Released 12th January 1979. My copy is a 50p ex-jukebox copy with a dinked middle, stuck in a Harvest sleeve at a later date. Arguably the only song celebrating the Serpentine leaf miner insect. Definitely the only song celebrating said creature in the style of The Kinks.

To the IFI for Pablo Larraín's 'Maria', which I enjoyed. Excellent cast, it looks and sounds fabulous, beautiful clothes and a very strong urge to spend the rest of the afternoon drinking Fernet-Branca.

Bought in Sheffield on 13th January 1979. Some kids had Quo, others had Queen, but my band was Be-Bop Deluxe.
