The issue is that when public health works, there's nothing to see. To people who do not understand public health, it looks like these programs have no impact. Cutting them to save money is not only misguided, it's going to make the US (and the world) a far less safe place.

Both siding is an issue when scientific discourse is placed on an equal footing with unsupported verbal diarrhea. It's important to keep calling the BS even if it's exhausting. And I think we, as scientists, are going to need to do a lot more of that in the next few years.
