Took a walk around my neighborhood this morning. I didn’t see one American car except full-size pickups. Trump, in his rotted brain, still thinks we should be back to the Plymouths and Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs of his youth back in Queens.

So the basic proposal, if I’m following correctly, is to wrench the whole American consumer economy back to Gilded Age protectionism by means of Executive fiat, right now, tonight, while Congress tries to relieve the tax burden on some rich people but everyone else goes on paying income taxes too.

Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.
