I was hoping that my first bsky post would be more cheerful. I recently joined NIH (NIEHS) as a PO. I fought hard for this position and was so excited to support health science from a new vantage point… I picked up my life and moved to NC. Unfortunately, my time at NIEHS was short lived.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

I teach a class on how more than a century ago white physicians believed Black people had thicker skin and were disfigured physically because of this presumption. Sobering to know that today this notion that our bodies can handle more pain/suffering persists: #Blacksky #Edusky #science #medicine
