I’m sorry but no, the DG should not fly to Florida to appease bullies. I can think of one scenario that’s far worse than the current one of a WHO without the US: a WHO with US leadership that erases the imprint of DEI, gender, SDOH, science - the whole gamut - from its portfolio.

"A world without WHO is ultimately a world that is far less secure. Canada must stand firm in its commitment to preserving and strengthening the organization, for its own public health security and for the well-being of the global community." Read @roojinhabibi.org 👇

I really need to rethink US travel in 2025. What a mess.

Just finished this Apple docuseries and wow, what storytelling. Well worth the time and a useful reminder of the power of civil resistance.

My contribution in @hilltimes.com today on Canada's next steps in light of the backlash against WHO - now coming not only from one country, but from several others. We should be very concerned by 'in vogue' attempts to make a statement against multilateralism through WHO. Its work protects us all.

What grim time to be teaching public health policy.

From WHO: “CDC right now is not reporting influenza data through the WHO global platforms, FluNet [and] FluID, that they’ve been providing information [on] for many, many years.”

Day 4/20

🚨Major victory🚨Judge just issued temp restraining order reversing the aid freeze at #USAID, State, and rest of USG. huge. Clear win, judge says programs must be reopened during the review… as we’ve been arguing judge agrees it is contrary to law on multiple levels. bravo to…

Strong statement by ASIL re the catastrophic disruption to int’l legal order.

Canada should stand firm against assault on WHO. In @TheHillTimes, CHLPE member Roojin Habibi highlights why global health governance matters now more than ever. www.hilltimes.com/story/2025/0... #GlobalHealth #WHO #HealthPolicy

Day 3/20

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

Another day, another tariff announcement. To those who bemoan violations of international law (or even his own promises from a week ago), I think that is very much the point.

Sightings from Sunday runs ❄️

Such a fantastic program offered by Australian National University's Planetary Health Equity Hothous. I too would love to sign up but the Canadian teaching semester is in full swing by September. This is also my attempt to break the doom and gloom on my newsfeed with something hopeful 💚

Great - now do one for WHO, UN Human Rights Council, and the myriad other IOs imperilled by retreating state support

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...
