DOGE’s expenses have risen above 40 million, with weekly costs now exceeding 10 million. We will release an updated DOGE staff list soon.

Much of the new form of post-MAGA right-wing antisemitism is going to repeat the same old tropes about Jews as rootless cosmopolitan degenerates, but will conscript Israeli Jews on the “good” side of people victimized by those dastardly Jews. Groups like the ADL are unprepared to talk about this.

Alina Habba, who is ostensibly a lawyer, claims on Fox & Friends that Trump "made the law" with his executive orders (executive orders are not laws -- only Congress can make laws)

The worst ethnic cleansing in the West Bank since 1967 is taking place in the last few weeks. About 40,000 have been ordered to leave three refugee camps. This is from Jenin.

Donald Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at canceling the visas of foreign students who advocate for Palestine. Mondoweiss talked to legal experts about its possible impact and the wider attacks on Palestine advocacy in the U.S. https://buff.ly/3CIGe8Q

With Handmaids Tale people focus on the shock of the mass rapes in the book and the show. But how the regime came to be in power in that book keeps me awake at night because it is playing out in very intricate detail in our real lives right now.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the resistance! Our ranks grow stronger every day.

Our team reviewed the entire DOGE website. Nothing they have identified constitutes evidence of fraud or corruption—both of which are crimes. Feel free to audit us. The funds were allotted by Congress, and OIGs regularly reviewed expenditures for fraud.

This week on Substack, I discuss London's oldest surviving council housing - in leafy Richmond - and the Liberal councillor who led local and national efforts to build decent affordable homes for working people: municipaldreams.substack.com/p/londons-fi...

It’s a toxic cocktail of understandable fear at these recent attacks mixed with longstanding institutional resentment. A friend asked how I saw things here and I had to be honest: bad, very bad.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

This week, approximately 200,000 federal workers have been let go.

It's the perfect day to remember the late Marianne Faithfull and play one of her finest songs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYmK...

Anyone want to join me in posting a favourite artwork? This is one of mine: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music) by Dorothea Tanning. I first saw it as a child and spent a lot of time ruminating on its strange, dreamlike quality.

Witch hunt of diviners and folk healers in Chechnya, mostly targeting women: public humiliations, arrests, even abductions, interrogations, and "confessions" for things like collecting water and stones from sacred places, or leaving small bundles of salt in courtyards. meduza.io/en/feature/2...

350 Rabbis took out a full page ad in the NYTimes today opposing Trump’s plan for Palestine and calling it ethnic cleansing.

🧵1/3 Israeli authorities demolished 11 buildings on Monday in the West Bank's Masafer Yatta region, in what regional council leader Nidal Younis said was the most extensive demolition of the last two years

Thanks to all who joined last night’s inspiring London meeting with @standing-together.bsky.social’s Shir Yerushalmi! We learned from Shir’s community organising experience & discussed the importance of creating change from within Israeli society - never more so than in this moment 💜🙏💜

Boy can I think of a lot of names for some upcoming animal meals here...

This is well worth reading, like everything @arthurasseraf.bsky.social writes. I have one thing to say though, as a historian of Palestine. jewishcurrents.org/the-algeria-...

And I'll be going to a gig there this weekend!

Antifascist demo today was pretty good all told. Respect to Central London Antifascists and others who organised an anarchist bloc on the demo. Loud soundsystem, big banner, lots of flags. Demo as a whole had decent energy, people from across the country, and felt unafraid.

I was debating about sending something in, then missed the deadline but looks like I'll have a chance to send it in after all. If you've got an ace story, why not send it in when they open for entries again Monday

This is an excellent building and social history from @westcountrymodern.bsky.social of Rennes House - Exeter's only residential high-rise, built in 1968 and about to be demolished. Well worth a read. buttondown.com/WestCountryM...

Welcome to the New Dark Ages! After a couple of months away from it I'm enjoying this playlist more than ever. In fact I find it sustaining and uplifting, despite or perhaps because of the title. open.spotify.com/playlist/2V9...

This weekend, I am reflecting, six months after the riots, & writing a piece on what that meant for what we need to do to tackle racism in our society today. Your thoughts are welcome.

I'm an American Jewish academic who is visibly Jewish and who teaches classes about Jewish subjects. Any pro-Palestine student who gets deported in the name of supposedly protecting my safety, it is not in my name. I reject attempts by fascists to divide us for their own gain.

There's a poll going round suggesting half of Gen Z would support a dictatorship in the UK. Slightly different question and sample... but this is definitely *not* what the British Election Study finds

A someone pointed out to me, it shouldn't be surprising that a war criminal like Netanyahu would feel affinity for a Nazi like Musk.

Why do they bother saying he "firmly denied" the accusations? They always do, no exceptions. His second wife Samantha "repeatedly feared for her safety during their marriage," and once hid in a closet. These women know they'd be in danger if they spoke up. www.huffpost.com/entry/pete-h...

There was no other director like him, and it's kind of a miracle that he was able to do all the wild, weird and strange work that he did, for as long as he did, and mostly with studio money. RIP. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...

glad to see the automated debate bots are still around lol

Today in Milan, a student activist group hung a trash-filled effigy of Musk upside down on a gate outside of piazzale Loreto, where Mussolini's body was displayed in 1945. They left the message: "C'è sempre posto a piazzale Loreto, Elon" (There's always room in piazzale Loreto, Elon)

'Make England Great Again' has been trending on that Other Site. And this was my response...

I'm really pleased because that's the first time anybody has ever said to me "Got any Lord Dunsany?" I am unlikely to hear a finer sentence for some considerable time.
