Really enjoyed this book over the holidays! I LOVED Entwined, and was really glad to find this retelling of The Nutcracker with that same Heather Dixon vibe. m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81b...

Gift-giving holidays are upon us! Check out an interview about my recent book, Luck in Little Joe, and do consider it for the middle grade reader in your life. rosegreenbooks.wordpress.com/2024/11/28/l... #middlegradebooks #luckinlittlejoe #rosegreen #middlegradegifts

Currently reading Blood Over Bright Haven, by M.L. Wang. This is exactly the kind of fantasy I've missed, I'm so glad that in the past few years, it's been making a comeback! curiouscatbookshop.com/book/9780593...

Honestly, the world is in such commotion, it's been nice to explore Bluesky. FB shows me more random posts than accounts I actually follow, and Twitter is angry. I guess all things have their place--but I also need a place where I can just look at the art accounts I follow and rest my brain.

That time we went to Altdorf in the rain

I loved this picture book so much! if you read one book about kindness this year, pick this one! It reminds me of Arthur Yorinks's book "Company's Coming" from around 15 years ago. Both wonderful!

One book 📚 -- A Wrinkle in Time One movie 🎥 -- The Wild Robot One album 💿 -- Roy Kim, 그리고 (aka ,and) One TV show 📺 -- Spy X Family

My continued hopes for Russia to retreat and Ukrainians to have a life of peace and safety.

I have a day job and can't always post multiple things a day. But I spent the last hour scanning illustrator pages here and it was SO RESTFUL! There is a great vibe. Also, accounts I want to follow instead of a million posts from random accounts and advertisers I don't know. Make it stay!

For all those who need a hug this week!

Loving the illustrator presence here and throwing some art into the ring!

Gift giving holidays are coming up! For the middle grade reader in your life, two books: sci fi adventure in Idaho lava tubes (Mind Over Antimatter) and breaking curses and family drama in Texas (Luck in Little Joe). rosegreenbooks.wordpress.com/books/ or order from your favorite bookseller!

The main guy, for ex., is always very gentle and willing to be vulnerable around the main girl. But as soon as he is with his guy friends, he switches over to a different dynamic--a cool guy exterior. He's still a nice guy, but with each person or group, he code-switches. Real people do that. 2/2

Another bit of good writing is how characters relate to each other. I noticed this particularly in the Chinese drama Hidden Love. The characters not only have distinctive personalities, but they also have distinct relationships with each character. 1/

Plus, adopted daughter Anya (who, unbeknownst to dad Loid, can read minds, and knows he is a spy) wants to help dad succeed so he won't send her back to the orphanage. Sadly, once he accomplishes the job, there will be no more need for the Forger family. 3/3

But, as he works hard to make his disguise convincing, they start to become a real family. He's been a successful spy because he has cut off all feelings and connections. But success at this job requires feelings and connections. It's a character catch-22. 2/

I like to note elements of good writing when reading or watching a storyline. One recent example is a setup like in the cold war anime Spy x Family: In order to accomplish his spy mission, Loid Forger must form a convincing fake family so he can infiltrate the social network of a private school. 1/

OUT TODAY! 12YO Shiloh is determined to break the curse that's turning her invisible and making her family move all the time. If she can find the lost (but lucky!) Connor family chandelier--she can do just that. That is, unless her no-good cousins find it first. Buy it in print and ebook!

We are getting closer! Follow the adventures of Shiloh as she tries to break the grip a curse has on her family and reclaim the luck they once had. Luck in Little Joe, coming May 1 in print and ebook. books2read.com/luckinlittle... #middlegradefantasy #middlegradeadventure #middlegradefiction

Announcing my new middle grade novel, out May 1! In order to break her family’s curse and gain a permanent home, twelve-year-old Shiloh Connor races her no-good cousins to recover the luck-bestowing chandelier that once hung in their family’s hotel. #middlegradebooks #middlegradefantasy

The past several years have been a book desert for me. I'd pick up a book, start it, and then not be able to finish. But this year! It's changing! A more interesting vibe, regardless of genre (but lots of nice fantasy). Thank you, writers, for pulling me out of a slump!

Have a lovely Thanksgiving, everyone!

Anyone else have a hard time getting started on a book until they find the right character names? I have a book in development, and it's killing me that I can't quite find the right names. Words (including names) matter. Please show up and name yourself!

I just have to say...it is a very peaceful island over here. The world is INSANE, and then I come here and see all these pretty kidlit book covers, it's lovely.

Aw really, you can't pin posts here? That's too bad. Otherwise, this new place seems nice. Hello, everyone! Especially booky people, that's what I'm here for. :) I'm a writer/illustrator with my first book out, Mind Over Antimatter. It's MG scifi set in Idaho. :)

Middle grade scifi. Black holes. Lava tubes. Alzheimer's. Friendship. Charged with a top-secret mission to save a mysterious invention, 13YO Cole Uribe must protect himself, his friends, and the greatest mad inventor in the state of Idaho. books2read.com/MindOverAnti...
