Finally caught up with this spiffing drake Ring-necked Duck at Craigavon Lakes this morning. Only a tantalising five minute drive from work, but my car has been in the garage all week! Still, all good things come to those who wait. #Birds #IrishRareBirds #YankDuckAlert

This Austral Pygmy-owl was quietly calling away and sunning itself high in the Andes outside Santiago, Chile this morning. We saw at least one further bird, both of which got mobbed mercilessly; perhaps that explains the look on its face... #Birds #birding

Steller's Sea-eagle - with an 8ft wing span, one of the largest eagles in the world. (Hokkaido, Feb 25) #birds

Another photo of the White Wagtail I recently saw in Door County, Wisconsin. This bird is common overseas, but rare to see here in the United States. It's lifer #248 for me (counting since 2022). 🪶 #birds #birding #birdwatching #BirdsSeenIn2025

The close-encounter-of-the-day-award here on our Hokkaido Bird-Photo-Tour was undoubtedly this Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker, performing fabulously much to the delight of everyone in attendance [Bird-Photo-Tours.com, #BirdsSeenIn2025].

Venus was shining brightly against a most beautiful evening sky tonight. Saturn was barely visible in the frosty twilight, well below Venus towards the horizon. Jupiter sparkled above me, with Mars rising in the East to complete a wonderful planetary procession.

Little Gull is less than annual on my patch so finding two birds together is very pleasing. One bird has been around for a month- it shows a lot of white in the primaries of the left wing (Leucism?) . The second bird appeared with it yesterday and has a more traditional wing pattern. #Highlandbirds
