Wildfire firefighting is filled with risk, and today we recognize the incredible dedication and sacrifice our wildland firefighters make. A plaque was installed at the legislature that will for the first time honour our wildland firefighters who lost their life protecting B.C.

The Premier has issued a statement on the US intention to further increase softwood lumber duties. These duties and the threat of Trump tariffs would hurt our forest sector and workers, and serve as a tax on middle class Americans. Link to statement: news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...

1/2: Today, we announced $28M for 74 wildfire fighting and forestry projects. Through FESBC we’ll see 31 wildfire mitigation projects and 43 fibre recovery projects, where typically unused timber will be put into manufacturing. Link: news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...

Congratulations to my friend, Darlene Rotchford. She introduced her first Bill in the House yesterday. The Bill adds extra protections against conflict of interest & double dipping, guarding your money from misuse. Transparency is fundamental to good governance, and to our govt. #bcpoli #BCGov

Today on Pink Shirt Day, we stand together against bullying and embrace the power kindness can have. Now, more than ever, let’s uplift each other, spread positivity, and create a community where everyone feels safe and valued. Let Kindness Grow! #PinkShirtDay #LetKindnessGrow #bcpoli #endbullying

From yesterday’s meeting with Premier Eby and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian Cultural Centre. Together, along with their MLA Nina Krieger, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to standing with Ukraine, in the face of Russian aggression. #BCGov #SlavaUkraini

Momentum is building at #Surrey Memorial Hospital with projects progressing to enhance patient care, from a cutting-edge cardiac care hub to a new renal unit. This project will help shape the future of healthcare for Surrey. @amnashahbc.bsky.social www.fraserhealth.ca/news/2025/Fe...

Our parks are the most beautiful in the world. Our southern neighbours frequent our parks, and we always welcome them. But now, it’s important to remind everyone: these are BC parks. They’re provincial parks, not state parks. These are our parks, and they always will be. #BCGov

Minister Neill and I sat down with Lenny Joe, BC First Nations Forestry Council (FNFC) CEO and advisor on the BC Timber Sales Review. FNFC is a true partner, leading the way on biodiversity, and local economy. Lenny brings those priorities to his work on BCTS, too. Here’s to our ongoing teamwork.

Great to be back out on the doorsteps talking to folks in Happy Valley, despite the rainy weather ☔️ #langford #bcpoli

1/2: A meeting with the BC Value-Added Wood Coalition. They represent our forest companies who unlock additional value from BC wood products, through advanced manufacturing. This is a group committed to strengthening our forest manufacturing sector and locking in jobs. #BCJobs

Met with Kathy Abusow, President of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, a certification body that assists market access for BC forestry products. Kathy is a dynamic leader, always looking for new opportunities. She works alongside BCers Lennard Joe, Jeff Bromley, Susan Yurkovich, and David Graham.

My message to President Trump is clear: If he thinks unjustified tariffs will mean anything beyond serious economic damage in the US and Canada, he’s dead wrong. Click the link below for the full article: cheknews.ca/as-trump-fla...

The BC Wildfire Service does so much more than respond to wildfires during the summer. Our crews work year-round, fighting and preventing fires. If you’re looking for a career with BCWS the hiring window is open until February 28. Interested in applying? Then visit: gov.bc.ca/wildfirefighters

Throwback to my UVic graduation, alongside my friend former Minister George Abbott. Today it was announced that George will join BC’s First Nations Treaty Commission. A well earned appointment. Great to see him take on the role, alongside his work with BC Timber Sales Review. #BCGov #BCForestry

Americans buy a lot of lumber from BC. Higher duties and a Trump tariff only makes it more expensive for families trying to recover and rebuild from wildfires & hurricanes. It’s time to drop the duties and the threat of tariffs & keep housing affordable for Americans. #bcpoli

Now more than ever, we need to stand strong for British Columbians and Canadians—and fight back against those who want to take us backward. Today’s Throne Speech is about delivering for people, building a stronger BC, and making life better for everyone. Let’s get to work. #bcpoli

1/2: It’s here: the first day of Session in BC! Today is a landmark, as we kick off the 43rd Parliament, and look ahead to the work before us. There’s a lot to be done - so let’s get started. #BCGov

First day of the legislative session feels like the first day of school! New energy, new classmates, and big plans. Let’s get to work! #bcpoli

Here is the full statement I released alongside Dan Dunmoyer, President and CEO of the California Building Industry Association: #BCForestry #BCJobs

Today I released a joint statement with Dan Dunmoyer, CEO of the California Building Industry Association, on the matter of BC lumber and softwood duties. Read the full release below: news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...

This morning I spoke to media to provide an update on my ongoing trade mission in California, and to give insight into the conversations that I’ve been having. The link to the recording is below: www.youtube.com/live/s7wG96K...

At 9:00am tomorrow, I’ll be speaking with media about my meetings in California. I’m going to talk about what I’ve been hearing from Californian stakeholders on the matters of high lumber duties and the unjustified tariffs. The link to the livestream is below: m.youtube.com/watch?v=s7wG...

1/2: One of my first stops in California - meeting with CAL FIRE. We toured the facilities and onsite tech. This included the helicopter hangar and the cockpit of one of their response planes. We then went into depth on the incredible work of BC Wildfire Service in the recent wildfires in LA.

1/4: Today, I'll be travelling to California to meet with some of our neighbours to the south. This trip is an opportunity to advocate for the interests of all British Columbians, but also to align with California on our shared priorities. #BCForestry #BCForests #BCWildfire

1/3: You’ll recall clips I shared from 3 BC wood product manufacturers: Woodtone Specialities, Ron Anderson & Sons, & Richmond Plywood. The theme is supporting manufacturing that adds value and increases the number of jobs from the trees we cut. Now, I’m excited to present the full video:

From my flight over one of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation’s area-based tenures. This picture shows retention of secondary structures - e.g., smaller trees, younger growth. This alternative harvesting technique supports the moose population. #BCForestry

The wildfires in Los Angeles, as well as those in BC last summer, point to the importance of our mitigation strategies. Watch this clip of Mic Werstuik from Westbank First Nation as he speaks to living with wildfire risk, and what can be done to minimize the impacts. #BCForests

It’s been a busy two weeks since I returned to Victoria: The FPBC conference, the @FES_BC AGM, I sat down with students from @UBCForestry, I formally met with Kim Haakstad from COFI, and more. Because as Minister, I must continue to seek out perspectives from across the sector. #BCForestry

I’d like to wish Wayne Klein congratulations on being named the Woodlots BC #2024WoodlotAward winner. Wayne has managed his West Kootenay woodlots to a tee, alongside his son Garth, making this a family-run business. Kudos to the Klein family on this well-deserved win!

At the Forest Professionals Conference, I was given a plaque, commemorating the Forest Tenure acquired by Ka:yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' First Nations. It wholly embodies the stewardship, leadership, and partnership coming to form in their forest management. Thank you, Len.

Our timber has always played a key role in the California economy - especially in home building. After the LA wildfires, rebuilding homes will require our lumber. To levee unjust duties and tariffs at this time, punishes California just as much as BC. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

In Vancouver and Whistler we welcome Invictus Games 2025 competitors from 23 nations, with a special shout out to Team America. Our soldiers have served side by side for decades, and whenever you need us, we will be there. And we know that you also have our back.

Wishing everyone a very happy Lunar New Year! Honoured to celebrate with my colleagues in Victoria’s Chinatown, North America’s oldest—welcoming the Year of the Snake with community, tradition, and joy. Wishing prosperity and happiness to all!

Congratulations are in order, for one of my biggest role models. As of today, Baltej Singh Dhillon has been appointed to the Senate. What a joy and inspiration to see him take on this role. Well deserved for someone of such high character, and wisdom. You’ll do great, my friend.
