To stay as far away as possible from what's happening in the world, I am reading Richardson's Clarissa in real time as suggested by a group at CUNY. #Clarissa2025 Clarissa's world is so completely foreign to mine that I can curl up in the pages and lose myself.

I find I'm well ahead of the assignment these days. A general observation--Powell's analysis of the effects of war on people's personalities is perhaps one of the most compelling things about these books. We know war changes people, but his attention is on how they've changed. #anthonypowelltogether

#PilgrimageTogether returns in 2026! I've just contracted with Dorothy Richardson's estate to publish a limited edition of her 2,000-page, 13 volume modernist masterpiece, Pilgrimage, in the US. It will be available as a set by September 2025.

Every so often I think of this woman in the passenger seat of my car. I was giving her a ride to her car (on the other side of campus), and she reached for a smooth orange stone I'd had on my console for several months. "If anyone else had this in their car, I'd wonder.... But not you." And I nod.

I could not stop reading. That conversation with Duport carried me away. #AnthonyPowellTogether

"'The arts derive entirely from taking decisions,' [Moreland]used to say. 'That is why they make such unspeakably burdensome demands on all who practice them. Having taken the decisions music requires, I want to be free of all others.'" Pg 80 Truth. #anthonypowelltogether

There's an article in the Hudson Review about Powell's wife's role in the creation of The Dance. hudsonreview.com/2024/11/at-l... I found this on the Arts and Letters Daily page. aldaily.com #anthonypowelltogether

Question for the group... Am I misremembering or is the first time Powell has danced outside his timeline? I mean, we haven't seen much (any?) of his childhood, have we? The Kindly Ones seems like a huge departure from what we've had before. #anthonypowelltogether

I'm pretty certain there were only two mentions of our hero getting married, and one was just the plan to do so. Then we find out it's two years after the wedding, and his wife is "convalescing." Did she give birth? Do we know what happened? Should I shut up and keep reading? #anthonypowelltogether

I used to tell my creative writing students that if you write without an outline, just pour it out. Like water, the material will find its shape. Sometimes it's hard to trust the process. But it works.

Years ago a major banking institution closed a branch in our neighborhood. My husband said that we or someone should buy the building, make it a bookstore, coffee shop, art gallery, place for poetry readings, etc., and call it The Left Bank. I still think about that dream.
