They're disassembling the NMAAHC by removing artifacts. Wild.

The United States of America is child trafficking.

Targeting university research grants for likes.

New, from @pamherd.bsky.social & I: An emerging conventional wisdom is that universities should abandon federal dollars since it gives Trump a means to strong-arm them. But breaking the federal-university research partnership would have high societal costs. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/are-univer...

"What's gonna happen to the elite DC/NY media narrative on DEI?" Nothing, because that media narrative never had anything to do with broader public anxiety about "DEI", and *everything* to do with elite DC/NY media anxieties about the presence of non-white, non-male colleagues.

RNS story on projects related to religion canceled by the NEH. Only 1 line from my interview was quoted and at the very end. It is *extremely* on brand. religionnews.com/2025/04/25/c...

Good piece from @davekarpf.bsky.social spelling out the connection between Trump’s ActBlue push with the of mass 2026 disenfranchisement. “If Trump’s DOJ can hound ActBlue out of operation, then it can and will do the same to any smaller, less-experienced alternative that takes its place.”

Time for another digital security PSA with guitar … here’s “All the Small Things” but it’s about scrubbing metadata from your photos before you post them 🤘

The Dark Ages (1980-2144)

Once again we see that AI is not "revolutionary" - it's a technology to accelerate doing existing things, and almost exclusively the things it's accelerating are crimes, scams, and negligence. Defrauding the government out of public moneys isn't new but AI is making it easier than ever before.

Yall wanna hear something extremely embarrassing? Before Trump’s election, a bunch of academics who lumbered rightward after being criticized by the left (Pinker, Dawkins, Krauss) wrote essays for a book that is coming out in July about the threats to academia from the left. YALL, THE TITLE!!

TBQ is open! Y'all are bringing it so far. We've received around 200 pieces overnight and I've read about 20 of them so far and already marked five as intrigued! Live más. Send us something. We now pay $150. I'm certain it will slow down but try to get your piece in by the next two weeks lol

Turns out you can shape the agenda with dramatic action and maybe even shift public opinion. Crazy.

History always has a lesson.

“Department of Government Efficiency.”

Wow, this is the first time we've heard this number. Previous reporting suggested it was $6 million. So now it's $15 million of U.S. taxpayer dollars to imprison people in El Salvador without trial.

FDA inspectors found serious problems at a Glenmark factory in India that manufactured the recalled drugs. Another medication made there has been tied to deaths of U.S. patients. By @sheinvestigates.bsky.social

🚨BREAKING: Trump's IRS nominee Billy Long just had his personal debt paid off by donors whose firms have business before the tax agency he’d lead, according to documents reviewed by The Lever. If confirmed, Long would be able to do favors for the donors. www.levernews.com/trump-irs-pi...

I’ve just been feeling so patriotic every time I walk into @skeuomorphpress.org lately. Today’s broadside from the US Declaration of Independence was inspired by a @lollardfish.bsky.social thread earlier this week

I knew the U.S. higher education system was a massive draw for foreigners, but I did not know the U.S. sold more educational services to the rest of the world than it did natural gas and coal combined. Great piece by @crampell.bsky.social

If you’re changing the definition of human rights, it means you plan on violating people’s human rights.

Head Start, an early childhood education program for low income families, is on the chopping block. Growing up, my own mom was an aide with the program; it’s helped countless young mothers, including the one who tells her story here. www.kqed.org/news/1203596...

yeah but teachers are girly so

The Census Bureau collects/funds all sorts of data collection researches rely on including the American Community Survey, the Current Population Survey, and Survey of Income and Program Participation. It will be considerably harder to say anything substantive about policy without those.

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever they aren’t going into universities’ endowments they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research

These stories landed today, within 11 hours of each other. This presidential administration is a clear and present danger to the American people.

They are further consolidating control over the priorities of federal science funding.

“Mr Trump’s grin mocked the principle that America is a place where the government cannot suspend rights whenever it chooses and where the chief magistrate willingly defers to the highest court. In other words, that America is not El Salvador.” www.economist.com/leaders/2025...

"the president defied a Supreme Court ruling to return a man mistakenly sent to a gulag... and spoke of sending Americans to foreign concentration camps. This is the beginning of an American policy of state terror, and it has to be identified as such to be stopped" snyder.substack.com/p/state-terror

Oh dear you’re going to want to read this. Looks like DOGErs were caught exfiltrating NLRB data, likely on unions, for private (seemingly Elony) use. This is must read. What we’ve all suspected. But now details. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

So this administration is trying to force economics departments to hire Marxists?

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

My great-grandmother was born in 1901 in Wisconsin. She had three sisters. Two of them died as children (one as a baby, one at age 7).

Worth highlighting the last bit here: "federal programs to stop kids from being poisoned are not waste, fraud, or abuse." If it's Congress's role to "lay and collect taxes ... and provide for the General Welfare," they need to step up and do their Constitutional duty.

If the federal government can take people into custody, deny them 5th and 6th Amendment rights (which apply to all people, not just citizens), and ship them to prison in a foreign country and not return them, that would be a loophole big enough to nullify all personal 5th and 6th Amendment rights.
