It should be obvious, then, why hallucination was a useful term for the AI establishment: it naturalizes AI’s untruths and by extension humanizes AI. Except AI is neither human nor natural. AI hallucinations exist because people created AI. Then, like Frankenstein’s monster, it escaped their control

The NYT gestures toward the truth of the moment but refuses to accept it.

I started a substack by writing about Neil Gaiman…and Arthur Munby and Sue Miller, which I means you won’t think you already read this.

Further evidence for my hypothesis that we don’t really need to worry about AI because everything internet gets worse instead of better. See, for instance, spellcheck, Google search, Twitter algorithm…need I go on? Except Spotify algorithm which is still scary accurate
