Just noticed the date on my village church: 1557! Back when Henry VIII’s divorce papers were barely dry. The church was the village’s Wi-Fi hub—spiritual connection shaky, signal strength questionable. Built to outlast empires, with sermons likely longer than most villagers’ lifespans.

The perks of being an expat writer in England? Being invited to a manor down the lane and finding a room both inspiring and daunting. Even the curtains have more grandeur than my whole house back in the States. Perfect for imagining cozy mysteries—or just pondering how the hell they dust the mirror!

Some people fall in love with sunsets or beaches. Me? Medieval doors. Nothing says “romance” to this expat American writer quite like ancient wood, iron studs, and a latch that probably kept out plague-ridden invaders. #MedievalDoorObsession #HistoryNerd #DoorLove #MedievalAesthetic #AncientCharm

The original “Inbox.” Standing tall since the days when “sending a message” required ink, paper, and a good pair of walking shoes. Long live the charm of snail mail! This little red icon of the Royal Mail in my village has seen love letters, gossip, and tax returns. Oh, the stories it could tell!"

You never know what you’ll find at a castle! “Timothy the Tortoise” at Powderham Castle was a naval veteran who served on British ships in the 19th century before retiring with the Courtenay family. He lived about 160 years!

That time I met Jackie Collins, got completely star-struck, and she casually made my year by signing my book, writing 'Keep on doing it so well,' and proving she was even more fabulous in person. #StarStruck #JackieCollins #OnceInALifetime #WriterGoals #AuthorInspiration #SignedBooks #BookishMoments

I found this cute family on my recent walk through the field behind my house here in England. Moms everywhere know this look: “I love you, but can I have a little ‘Me time’?” Nope. A mother’s work is never done, especially when the kids are permanently attached to the milk bar. #MotherhoodMoments

This graveyard, a stone’s throw from my home in England, holds secrets older than the U.S. On 29 April 1587, John and Isabel Jordan—my ancestors—were laid to rest here. Together. Same day. I can’t stop wondering: Plague? Influenza? Or a love story that ended too soon?

This is the final resting place of Karen Carpenter in Westlake Village. On the 42nd anniversary of her passing, my heart is broken. I attended her funeral. Her voice was timeless, her talent unmatched, and her story a reminder of life's fragility. Rest peacefully, Karen—you are loved and missed.

Alpacas in my backyard? This isn’t just a cozy mystery setting—it’s my life now. Living in England as an expat writer means neighbors like this—curious, fuzzy, and always judging my prose through the fence. #ExpatLife #AlpacaAdventures #CountrysideDreams #EnglandThroughMyEyes #WriterLife

As an American expat writer in England, I came for the charm, the history, and the tea—nobody warned me about the toilets. This is the 'throne room'—where privacy was optional, and splinters were plentiful. They say, 'write what you know,' so stay tuned for my next book: Murder in the Medieval Loo.

This crumbling manor house once stood proud. Now? It’s more of a… fixer-upper. But with its eerie charm and overgrown walls, it makes the expat writer wonder: Who lived here? Who loved here? And who died here? #CozyMysteryLife #GothicRuins #VillageSecrets #MurderInTheManor #AmericanInEngland

As an American expat writer living in England, there’s something about an ancient castle overlooking the sea that stirs the imagination. Did someone vanish from the walls of this place? Did the waves below carry away the evidence? Or is there still a secret waiting to be uncovered?

Meet Mr. Boots. Charming. Mysterious. Lethal. Today’s gift? A dead mouse. And the pièce de résistance? Watching him devour it with zero remorse. My life as an American expat writer living in the English countryside isn’t all tea and scones, folks… Well, mostly it is. ☕🐀 #MrBoots #MurderousMouser

As an American expat writer living in England, I was looking for the toaster in this castle kitchen. Instead, I found 47 copper pots, a bread oven from the 1800s, and a butter dish that could double as a murder weapon. Life in an English castle, folks—it’s all very Downton Abbey meets Clue. 🫖🧈🔪

A dark, stormy day— perfect for a murder mystery! As an American expat writer in England, misty castle courtyards set my cozy mystery brain spinning. Secret doors, hidden treasure, scandals... But first, tea.☕️🌧️🔎 #CozyMysteryLife #CastleSecrets #ExpatinEngland #GothicVibes #PollyPepperInvestigates

In America, you might find a “Beware of Dog” sign. In England? You get a knight in shining armor guarding your door. Honestly, I feel much safer knowing this guy is keeping watch… even if he is a bit rusty. As an American expat writer living in the UK, this is my idea of the “strong silent type.”⚔️🇬🇧

As an American Expat writer living in England, every time I walk past a castle like this, my cozy mystery brain kicks into overdrive. Secret passageways? Hidden treasure? A ghostly resident? The stories practically write themselves. Now, where’s my tea? 🍵🏰 #CozyMysteryLife #CastleGoals #ExpatAuthor

Imagine dining in this room by candlelight, portraits watching your every move, the scent of history lingering in the air… and a locked door you definitely weren’t supposed to open. Sounds like a cozy mystery waiting to happen, doesn’t it?… #VillageSecrets #CozyMysteryVibes #PollyPepperInvestigates

In America: “Meet me at Starbucks.” In England: “Meet me in the 17th-century pub with a hidden passageway, old stone walls, and a mounted stag head watching your every move.” Guess where I’m having my pint? 🍺🇬🇧 #CozyMysteryLife #ExpatAuthor #VillageSecrets #LifeInTheEnglishCountryside #PollyPepper

Castles! I LOVE castles! Plenty here in “my” adopted England. They provide inspiration for my Polly Peoper cozy mystery series! Polly would definitely sniff out a dead body in this place. Probably in the tower!🤪.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Who needs Starbucks to when I can write in a pub that looks like this? It’s straight out of an episode of “Midsomer Murders”! Screams cozy mystery, doesn’t it? I love living in England!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
