Aconitum carmichaelii ‘Arendsii’ (aka Monkshood or Wolfsbane; member of the buttercup family). All parts are extremely toxic (which makes it an excellent selection for The White House Garden). It is a fall-blooming perennial for woodland gardens - no known edible usefulness. ☠️ #PoisonousPlants

The eastern redbuds (Cercis canadensis) flowers are borne right on the trunk, not like most woody flowering plants that produce flowers on new growth. This botanical trait is called cauliflory & the plants are cauliflorous. From Latin "caulis", meaning stem, and "flor", meaning flower.

The Spanish moss in the orchid cabinet has started blooming. I have a couple big clumps, so I'm sure it will be blooming for months now. Did you know that Spanish moss is not moss or lichen? It's a Tillandsia (air plant) from the bromeliad family! It's related to pineapple, weirdly enough. 🌿🌱
