RIP Fred Bekky at age 81, founding member of Belgian 60s band The Pebbles. Had some hits with Seven Horses In The Sky, Incredible George, Mackintosh, and To The Rising Sun. youtu.be/WC7Tl5xNvMA?...

Van der Graaf Generator organist Hugh Banton has a new track on Bandcamp today, a sort of "reggaeification" of a well-known Mozart work. It features HB on organ, accordion, bass and drums. hughbanton.bandcamp.com/track/adagio... (1/2)

#NowPlaying Dorie Jackson - Stupid Says Run (2025). <Thanks to Brexit it only took 4 weeks to arrive, whereas before ordering from UK took only a week.> To my continental ears: as English as can be. Imagining pub concerts in Cotswolds villages.

#NowPlaying World Star Festival (1969). A United Nations release in aid of the world’s refugees. Seems like not much has changed for the better all these years.

#NowPlaying Carmen - Fandangos In Space (1973) & Dancing On A Cold Wind (1975). Quite an experience, this mix of flamenco rhythms, mellotron, castanets, footwork, electric and Spanish guitar.

#NowPlaying Comedy of Errors - Fanfare & Fantasy (2013). These Scots surely know how to bring seventies prog to the 21st century.

#NowPlaying Magenta - Seven (2004 - remastered 2009 edition with DVD).

#NowPlaying Barclay James Harvest - Time Honoured Ghosts (1975). The song “Titles” is a wonderful achievement.

#NowPlaying Big Big Train - English Boy Wonders (1997). The original version, hinting at what they would accomplish the following years. A great band in the making.

#NowPlaying Unitopia - The Garden (2008).

#NowPlaying Comus - Out Of The Coma (2012).

#NowPlaying For all those Peter Hammill fans who couldn’t make it to the recent Italy and Athens concerts: there’s a wealth of videos up on YouTube. This one is a full concert capture. youtu.be/UT8B8NWLblA?...

#NowPlaying Annie Haslam’s Renaissance - Blessing in Disguise (1994), reissue with two bonus tracks in 2005. With a lot of input from Tony Visconti, so not much to do with classic Renaissance sound. Very atmospheric and quite enjoyable though.

#NowPlaying Ian Anderson - Rupi’s Dance (2003).

#NowPlaying Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender (2004). An artist that is somewhat neglected by my acquaintances here.

#NowPlaying Some of those innumerable compilation records taking you back in time. Pretending to be listening to radio Caroline, Noordzee, or Veronica.

Suspending #NowPlaying to pay tribute to RIP David Lynch.

#NowPlaying Gently going into this winter’s evening with Andreas Vollenweider: ...Behind The Gardens - Behind The Wall - Under The Tree... (1981) and its follow-up Caverna Magica (...Under The Tree - In The Cave...) (1983).

#NowPlaying Andwella’s Dream - Love And Poetry (1969). A forgotten psychedelic classic that is still quite enjoyable. Doesn’t sound dated at all.

#NowPlaying Reserved the afternoon listening for The Enid. This is as close to classical chamber music as “prog” can get.

#NowPlaying Indian Summer (1971). Their one and only album. Organ driven and somewhere between early 70s hard rock and prog.

These are the Camel studio records missing in my collection. Some are for sale on Discogs, but I’m not tempted by the costs. Shipping from US or Japan, plus taxes, import duties, etc., certainly will double the price. Does anyone know of online stores that might stock these?

My ten cents...

#NowPlaying The Tangent: The Music That Died Alone (2003) & A Spark In The Aether (TMTDA part 2) (2013). Andy Tillison with a plethora of great musicians: David Jackson, Guy Manning, Roine Stolt, Jonas Reingold, Theo Travis, Luke Machin, Morgan Ågren.

Happy New Year, everyone. Enjoy.

#SF #SciienceFiction Adrian Tchaikovsky - Alien Clay. Another fine novel. As I always wait for the paperback edition measuring 130x197 mm, I easily lag six months behind first edition. But that’s OK, no pressure. There’s always enough to read.
