The Australian experience is that offshore refugee detention is a truly awful idea. It costs a fortune to operate. Everybody involved ends up with PTSD. Eventually the courts catch up and rule that indefinite detention is illegal so you end up paying out millions in compensation. Best not to do it.

France24 are reporting that Michael Bloomberg will fund the UN climate change agency after President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Paris Agreement. Bloomberg’s pledge will cover the 22 percent of its $96.5 million budget previously provided by the US for 2024-2025. Pretty good.
