#JamesBarryDiary 28/2/1875 The last day of February, and I am extremely well pleased at its occurrence. My head was, and is, sore all day somewhat and my bowels are filled with flatus today, as those about me can well testify; for every now and then away goes a roar from below somewhere.

A small bright light on a dark night - she's a fine MPP.

#JamesBarryDiary 27/2/1875 Blowed great the whole of last night and freezing some also. The boy drying and grinding, and myself in the Bookbinding shop and finished up all my books I had to bind for other folks. I am now pretty well over my trouble with my stomach. All the rest well.

I think they should vote out the idiot that negotiated the last deal.

Gene Hackman: the star of every scene he was in.

RIP Gene Hackman - a powerful, and sometimes funny, actor.

I'm not a religious person, but this truly is reaching the metaphysical level of demons assembling.

This is a fantastic analysis that I wish could be hammered into my feckless congressional rep’s head.

#JamesBarryDiary 26/2/1875 Thawing and blowing all the forenoon and blowing and freezing all the afternoon. Rained considerable last night. Raised the water. Boy attending mill and kiln and myself Bookbinding. I am middling well at present. This soft spell lowered the snow over one half. Amen.

#JamesBarryDiary 25/2/1875 Still soft, but no rain. Very misty in the afternoon and evening and some little rain after night-fall. Snow going off gradually. There is not much of a rise in the brook. The boy attending the kiln and mill, and myself bookbinding. I am well.

#JamesBarryDiary 24/2/1875 Still soft and some rain, but, wonderful to tell, the water has risen very little, and I am very glad, for if it rained heavy there would be a teeming freshet and damage would ensue. The boy attending mill and kiln and myself attending to the bookbinding establishment.

#JamesBarryDiary 23/2/1875 Soft all day, except a little in the morning that was a mixture of snow and some dirt. The boy attending Kiln and Mill. I was poking about the Bookbinding shop most of the day. Sold near 300 lbs oatmeal to James Willis. I paid the boy $5. I am considerable better. Amen.

It's Nice To Be Disliked (By One Of Those)

#JamesBarryDiary 22/2/1875 Clear and cold, but not extra by any means. I felt so bad last night that I did not go to the mill until the middle of the afternoon. The boy attending the kiln and doing the most in the mill - no wheat this spell back. I am middling this evening. Cannot fiddle any!

"L’obéissance aux préjugés universels avait triomphé de l’habituelle exactitude de son regard; et son témoignage, comme tant d’autres, renseigne non sur ce qu’il vit en réalité, mais sur ce que, de son temps, on estimait naturel de voir." Marc Bloch

It's not just the framing of the Cross Country Checkup question that's problematic, it's also the format of the show and the inability to understand the serious history of occupations.

“When New Scientist asked explicitly if human-caused climate change played any role in the record high temperatures, the NOAA press representative abruptly ended the call, saying, ‘I’m not seeing any more on-topic questions from the media.’”

#JamesBarryDiary 21/2/1875 Soft all last night and all the forenoon of this day, but no rain except a small shower last night. Raised the water some. Freezing some this afternoon with high winds all day and all last night. My stomach was very much pained after and before going to bed last night. /1

#JamesBarryDiary 20/2/1875 Soft all day, but no rain. I felt considerable relieved all this forenoon and part of the afternoon; but towards the middle of the afternoon I felt dry and I took a mouthful or two of cold water which brought the pain and wind again into my stomach.

#JamesBarryDiary 19/2/1875 Clear and cold, rather colder if any in the day. I am still suffering with my stomach, no abatement. I had to vomit last night in the middle of the night, but I worked in the mill most of the day. I sent to Westville this morning for a “Bottle of Vinegar Bitters”.
