I have a few public workshops (at conferences) this year: ExploreDDD Denver in April, DDD EU Antwerp in June, and UberConf Denver in July. And as always, I’m available for private workshops and consulting engagements at your company.

This is a great day to call your Congressperson and ask them to vote against the House Budget Resolution, which includes cuts to Medicaid. A lot of folks depend on Medicaid for their health insurance. Call before 4PM Eastern. You can find your numbers here:

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

I was actually just discussing this concept with a CxO the other day. Hiring the perfect 7+/-2 team is, counterintuitively, a *massive* liability to a company. No team lasts forever, and magic teams can't be replaced. Instead, I like to focus on building great systems that *produce* great people.

It's kind of a tangent from Leah's point, but I think a lot about how we expect people to be ok with starting from scratch over and over again, and this is a great example.

Media coverage of this really misses the impact it is having on everyday lives. Some of these jobs looked safe even with a normal administration change, so people who took them thinking their jobs would be secure are and now having their and their families' lives upended

💝 Valentine’s Day Discount 💝 Starts in just over a week. A few seats open.

thank you, @hankgreen.bsky.social

A fully acoustic original song from @ellispiper.bsky.social - a song I thoroughly enjoyed whilst getting ready for work! Send all the love and support to her and her friends, they performed amazingly and should definitely collaborate more in the future ♡

I hear some saying “‘Move fast and break things’ may work for Silicon Valley but it doesn’t work for government.” It doesn’t work for Silicon Valley either. If you need a mantra, a much better one would be “Move deliberately and fix things.”

Our list of pre-conference workshops has been finalised (for now): https://buff.ly/3Rr8CjX What are your favourites?

April 14-17. Who’s joining us?

"Collaboration can standardize accessibility practices, share best practices, and co-create inclusive solutions." Love this Debra! I have really found this to be true and an impactful and effective way to make change happen #AXSChat

Our list of Pre-Conference workshops is final (for now). We have selected 20 workshops by industry experts for you to choose from: https://buff.ly/3Rr8CjX

Without federal support, American communities will struggle to deal with a challenge as pervasive as climate change, market analysts and environmental advocates say.

This blog post is deep, but it’s a must read for people who care about the relationships between open source and money driven economies. The intersection of those two is historically fraught, but Andrew treats the topic exceptionally well :)

"What is built on the basis of force, and not on the truth about the equal dignity of every human being, begins badly and will end badly."

Sent out the invitations to the workshop slack, feeling the feels (amazing people! Including several “alumni” from leadership workshops last year, and several I have “met” here!!).

Halftime show so good Bluesky traffic spiked by 45% for 10 minutes after the show ended.

My wish: That every scientist who is passionately advocating for science here will take their same message and also broadcast it in some other venue. We need to get the message out to those who haven’t yet heard it (and are not yet convinced). Please consider it 🙏

Tuberculosis outbreaks in Kansas and North Carolina and yet I’ve not seen a single media outlet mention wearing masks. In fact masks are banned in North Carolina. A good respirator protects from more than just Covid. The people deserve to know how to keep themselves safe.

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

I needed to read this essay by @saraannmarie.bsky.social today, and maybe you do too.

Research universities are often the largest employers in their region. They are often the primary health care providers to communities. This funding shift will not only reduce US research leadership, it will put working people out of work and reduce healthcare access.

Vote YES for social housing (1A) & public schools (both levies)! We need social housing throughout all of Seattle to keep our city affordable for families, workers, artists, students, and more! Social housing + funded public schools = community! @thebethocracy.bsky.social @r343l.bsky.social

Looking forward to discussing this Conceptual Integrity chapter with @mentrix.bsky.social and a wonderful group of systems-interested folk on Monday (Feb 10th)! More 👇

Soon! Last few seats — 💝

After buyouts and layoffs, lots of very talented journos are leaving HuffPost today, including many 10-year HuffPost veterans, rare in digital media. Politics, national, culture, life, crime, breaking, copy, visuals all impacted. A deep, counterproductive cut. www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

I'm so sad to share that I was laid off by @huffpost.com today. My heart goes out to my colleagues who were also impacted by this round of layoffs. This job has been so amazing and I'm forever grateful. I'm still very overwhelmed by the news, so more from me soon❤️
