A semi-regular reminder: if you read a paper in your area, especially if they cite you, and ESPECIALLY if it's by someone possibly junior... send them a congratulations email. I don't do this often enough, but I know they can mean the world to the author! 🔭🧪📖 #academicsky

On my way to a week long course on Realist Evaluation methods! Can’t wait!

Just migrating Voices of Academia here, from X. Please give us a follow at @voicesofacademia.bsky.social #AcademicMentalHealth

Our new project ‘Supporting perinatal young mothers and birthing parents: a realist evaluation of community based services’ now has a website! Im not a professional web developer so there is work to be done- but visit to learn about our study and follow for updates perinatalsupport.co.uk

Please share our new paper that has identified six types of interventions and five common mechanisms that might be useful when addressing perinatal loneliness. We hope this paper can help those researching and delivering services for parents. bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.....

Our review of interventions that support unpaid carers of adult mental health inpatients that was published online 3 years ago, has now been published in print in the Journal of Mental Health. It's still available open access online, so please do take a look! Thanks. doi.org/10.1080/0963...

On top of the world (/ a Munro) in snowy Scotland.

A magical day walking with my favourite person in the world.

Excellent paper identifying ways to reduce perinatal loneliness. The intervention categorisation could be used for other groups such as children & young people e.g: shared identity social support groups; creative approaches including arts, nature or exercise based & holistic, place based support.

Interested in interventions that might reduce perinatal loneliness? Read our scoping review here! We summarise the types of interventions we found in the published research, and identify some common mechanisms that influence social outcomes. #perinatalmentalhealth #loneliness rdcu.be/d8V27

Those of you in UK HE sector right now: a reminder that no matter how passionate you are - a job is a job. It might feel like you could never land anywhere else. You can, and will, should you need to. And wherever you end up, your new workplace will be lucky to have you.

It's #TimeToTalk about mental health at every appointment during and after pregnancy. With 70% of expectant and new mums hiding how they're really feeling, it's so important that we normalise the conversation. The more we talk, the more we reduce the stigma surrounding perinatal mental illness.

Read our scoping review that explores interventions that prevent or reduce perinatal #loneliness - this is the first paper from my Fellowship. TLDR: we categorised interventions into six types and identified five common mechanisms that positively influenced social outcomes.

So great to have this and read everyone's stories, and it's really beautifully presented too 😍 (Also, I'm in it!)

It feels more important than ever to share this resource for LGBTQ+ parents and carers. Sending love to our friends in the USA. #lgbtq+

A while back I put a shout out to find fellow mental health academics who also have lived experience of mental ill health. Delighted to announce that myself and Dr Ruth Knight from York St John have secured funding to set up a support network for lived experience researchers in the UK (at first!)

I’m incredibly pleased to share the LGBTQ+ parents and carers digital zine. To reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, we asked people to share their thoughts and experiences of being LGBTQ+ and a parent to make an online creative resource. The result is beautiful! heyzine.com/flip-book/d0...

In case you missed it, @ruthndwrites.bsky.social delivered a BRILLIANT webinar on research impact as an ECR. Watch here: youtu.be/ySY_JxtQPQQ?...

The video and slides from my seminar on research impact on Monday. I give my top tips on making little waves as an early career researcher www.spcr.nihr.ac.uk/research/3-s...

Update: I loved presenting today and the video and slides will be available soon for anyone who wants to hear my tips on getting started on research impact as an early career researcher! ❤️ thanks for the opportunity and for the amazing funding - NIHR Three Schools Mental Health Programme.

I’ve so enjoyed preparing my presentation for Monday’s seminar. I will be talking about what I love most about my job- seeing research findings translate (slowly) into positive impacts. Reflecting on what your research has achieved so far is a great way to start the year #impact #researchimpact

Voluntary sector, community-based + non-clinical social support to prevent or reduce mental ill health experienced by young mothers and young birthing LGBTQ+ people in the perinatal period: what works, for whom and in what circumstances? Our review starts in Jan! www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/dis...

This diagram really nails the impacts of living with multiple long term conditions.

My three year old hammering with a real hammer and nails at nursery (after a tool talk) ❤️😂 … kids are way more capable than we ever give them credit for. #forestschool #positiverisk #toddlerDIY

The Three NIHR Schools’ Mental Health Programme has announced their upcoming seminars. These seminars are the perfect chance to learn about different topics related to mental health, including meaningful involvement, gaps in care & access to services. 👉 mentalhealthresearch.org.uk/three-nihr-s...

I’m so grateful to all my amazing colleagues who have helped and supported me this year. Together we’ve achieved so much. I’ve learnt loads, including areas for personal development. I’ve had successes + rejections. I’ve made mistakes + great choices. Excited for next year’s learning after a break!

Fantastic work! Well done!
