“The freezing of US humanitarian assistance has forced the closure of almost 80% of the emergency food kitchens set up to help people left destitute by Sudan's civil war. It is estimated that nearly two million people struggling to survive have been affected.” www.bbc.com/news/article...

“The costs of disengagement are measured in instability, insecurity & lost influence. Assistance through a vibrant & properly staffed USAID isn’t a handout—it’s an investment. To abandon it isn’t just shortsighted; it’s a dereliction of duty to our nation” www.providencejournal.com/story/opinio...

If you were a federal worker that was fired, a NIH researcher that lost a grant, one whose existence was scrubbed from an official webpage, a farmer who lost funding, or anyone else who has been affected...drop the details here. I want to follow you @ryanmusser.bsky.social and others! #DEI #NIH

“Rubio looks as if he’s merely a bystander as Musk and his acolytes…Diminishing yourself is one way to survive under Trump. That said, Rubio may not have the actual power at Foggy Bottom, but he still bears responsibility for what happens there.” www.politico.com/news/magazin...

This lawsuit by a USAID Foreign Service Officer is of unspeakable horror. The US government has abandoned him and his 31-week pregnant wife who is hemorrhaging in a foreign hospital in a volatile, insecure country s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

“Defendants have not offered any explanation for why a blanket suspension of all congressionally appropriated foreign aid, which set off a shockwave and upended reliance interests for thousands of agreements with businesses, nonprofits & organizations, was a rational precursor to reviewing programs”

In the court case brought by AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition and Global Health Council for cancelled foreign aid projects, the judge has blocked the cancellation of foreign aids contracts and grants in place before Trump’s inauguration. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

The gutting of US foreign aid and USAID is *exactly* what our enemies and competitors around the world want. This is a fever dream they could not ever have imagined. Just a massive self-own by us. www.politico.com/newsletters/...

Cutting foreign aid is "so shortsighted" and "doesn't serve the president’s overall agenda of trying to get results” said a former Trump admin official. "He should use it, wield it, use it however he wants, but don’t destroy it." www.devex.com/news/dismant...

Good morning all. I've been spending days reporting on what is happening within the federal workforce, and will spend the weekend on it. There is a lot to say. But I want to start with a few posts about USAID.

There is a real policy debate to be had over the size of government and role of foreign aid, of course. And some sources within USAID have in the past told me - yes, it is an agency in need of reform. That is not the issue or what I am reporting on here.

Instead, I am focusing on this b/c a major policy decision - potentially shutting off a massive lever of US influence and human aid in the world - is happening without notice or discussion. I'll keep on this.

I am tracking a good deal of efforts happening behind the scenes, on Signal, etc. This is one example that I have vetted. usaidstopwork.com This is not a Trump administration false site but one by people attempting to get hands around *what* is happening.

Anyone with thoughts or information about USAID or other federal workforce issues at the moment, please reach out on LinkedIn. Thank you!

People are always complaining about demands their Airbnb hosts put on them & I don’t understand where they find these places. In Greece, we had numerous Airbnbs gave us wine or liquor as a welcome gift. These were the (amazing) checkout instructions for our recent stay in Tempe.

Yesterday while hiking I introduced Calvin to a pine cone and he thought it was the funniest thing ever.

Currently in Sedona. Have to be a little more conservative in regards to the hiking we do now that we have a baby
