The much-anticipated Gulf Coast snowstorm is now ongoing — moderate to heavy snow is extending all the way down to the coast, with many southern locations on track to end up with more snow than NYC has received all winter.

In a typical year (per 30-year median), sea ice would be arriving in the Strait of Belle Isle (51°N) around now. However, in 2025, as of January 8, there is open water along practically the whole Labrador coast! Have to go nearly to Baffin Island (61°N) to find consistent ice. #nlwx
