Show some love for people seeking safety this #ValentinesDay by sharing a message of solidarity, welcome and support. Together we can build a better future with refugees in Scotland. #AyeWelcomeRefugees

Put on your dancing shoes with a real #LivingWage employer!

So, we have the US President actively calling for ethic cleansing in regards to the forced displacement of Palestinians, and the UK PM's response is to close down what few routes they may have had to seek asylum. This is why people are forced into using irregular routes www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is an unlawful move by UK government and the only viable route is legal challenge.

This is almost certainly unlawful under Article 31 of the Refugee Convention. If the UK government isn't challenged here, next target could be resettlement. A legal challenge must be on its way. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Keir Starmer's most consistent and welcome message is that people should be treated with dignity. How does stripping refugees of the right to citizenship square with that?

I am asked, a lot, about how Labour could effectively combat Reform without pushing further to the right, and basically just reinforcing Reform's messaging. So, buckle up, here's a thread on it. Disclaimer though, this a simplified thread of a complex issue, and even then it is going to be long. 1/

Thanks to the amazing 500 followers in such a short while on this platform. Looking forward to learning from all and more helpful discussions to help create a more forgiving, welcoming and hopeful world for everyone.

People's character should not be judged based on what means they took to arrive here in search of safety or where they came from. With these changes we are tacitly allowing the government to run coach and horses through our cohesion. freemovement.org.uk/good-charact...

This obsession with enforcement is sickening. There is no need to make drama out of people's misery. Thanks @enversol.bsky.social for this powerful article 👏. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This is pretty spot on by @labourlewis.bsky.social. As @zoejardiniere.bsky.social pointed out on LBC earlier, there is something very Trumpian, and just generally sickening, about effectively live streaming people in distress for the entertainment of racists. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

These people came to us in search of peace. Governments of all colours had a chance to put a stop to these tragedies. Instead, of creating a safe, functioning and humane system, sadly politicians pander to right wing rhetoric, prioritising votes over human lives. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

... and the winner of our tartan scarf competition is... @tomp-e.bsky.social !! 😃🥳 Thank you so much to everyone who took part! We really appreciate all of your support! Have a great weekend everyone! 🧡

More tartan scarves on their way to: Giffnock ✅️ Texas ✅️ Drumchapel ✅️ Yeovil ✅️ Vancouver ✅️ Liverpool ✅️ New York ✅️ Thank you for all of your support! 🧡 If you'd like to show solidarity with refugees from your area, you can find our scarves here: scottishrefugeecouncil.bigcartel.com/product/scot...

People displaced by war are protected under the Refugee Convention. Using refugees as a political bargaining chip is both inhumane and violates international law.

Will there be 10k followers there by tomorrow!? 😀 The scarf is beautiful. I am proudly wearing mine.

Renewed sense of hope from yesterday's @scvo.scot Gathering. There are so many of us working together to stand up for the rights and well-being of communities we work with. It was great to see new and old friends, including @maltapar.bsky.social former @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social Chair.

Wrap up in warmth and unity – together, we stand strong against racism!

Looking forward to chairing a session on advancing antiracism @scvo.scot #TheGathering with the fantastic @talatyaqoob.bsky.social, layla-roxanne and Fidele Mutwarasibo.

Fear does not make us safe or prosperous. Only hope, solidarity, and our common humanity will help us overcome major challenges.

Lovely humans, I'm training to run a half-marathon for @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social in May! I only started running last year so this is a big challenge for me - but I know the challenge for refugees to rebuild their lives is even greater. All donations/shares would be HUGELY appreciated!! ❤️❤️❤️

Is this the sun peaking through the city skyline in Glasgow at 20:11?

Happy New Year 2025 to the Chinese community in Scotland, and good luck to the cleaners at Glasgow City Chambers 😀.

Some days begin like this: thanking young people for extending a hand of friendship and a welcoming smile to refugee children seeking safety from the world's worst conflicts. Your kindness and warmth make a profound difference, offering hope and a sense of belonging to those who need it most. 🧡

Gie us a follae! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🧡

As we await the government's Border Security, Asylum & Immigration Bill, we ask everyone to remember this: "Border security" and "Asylum" are not the same thing. We'll be interrogating this bill fully...

Just had a visit from my dear friend Hosay with a fabulous Burns night surprise in a Slanj kilts bag. This is a dress (she sews 🧵 to relax; I knit 🧶 ) in the gorgeous new Scottish Refugee Council tartan 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 . I am going to be wearing it a lot! Just need a ceilidh now 💃🏿 ⭐️ @sabirzazai.bsky.social

The Telegraph has removed these made-up numbers (the claim there were 1.2 million asylum seekers in four and a half years, outside the Ukraine, Hong Kong and Afghan schemes, ie an average of 265k per year) from Nick Timothy's column. Odd to be so specific when making up facts!

New video! 👀 GBNews has a brand new presenter to fill the gap in their anti-migrant coverage! His name is Matthew Goodwin & luckily enough he knows HOW TO STOP AN INVASION! Is this the solution at last? I looked into it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyKI...

Have @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social & Rory Stewart just gone & solved the small boats crisis in their latest episode of @restispolitics.bsky.social? Huge if so! So I've looked into it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=toFk...

Love this photo, and the story behind it. 84 year old Mohammad Zahir Zazai, in traditional Afghan dress, at his son, Sabir Zazai's, doctorate ceremony at Glasgow University. Sabir Zazai arrived here as a #refugee aged 22 and became the Chief Executive of the Scottish Refugee Council.

Great photo of @sabirzazai.bsky.social and a pleasure to meet his father that special day. @alisonphipps.bsky.social

Syrians have endured unimaginable challenges, and now more than ever, we need to stand with them in solidarity. I hope Syrians would work towards peace, stability, and a brighter future. Only strength, resilience, and unity will guide #Syria through this period of transformation.

Not content with it being his first time watching a comedy show live, Sabir also got took to the stage for a wee 5 min improv to open our event 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

There's nothing funny about asylum but tonight's 'No Borders Comedy' proved that we are all part of a bigger picture. Thanks to all the amazing comedians and the generosity of the audience in raising vital funds for Scottish Refugee Council 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🧡

A memorable and thought-provoking evening with Baroness Warsi, who has such a wealth of experience and insight to share, especially on matters of faith, identity, and belonging. So chuffed with my own signed copy of her new book.
