Every time my toddler tries to run away from me, I think, "I have been training for this my whole life. Unless you intend to run for longer than a day, this will not end well for you."

The Difficulty of Identifying Experts Online. New post up on @psychologytoday.com! www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cons...

Greg Hickey of KineSophy interviewed me about my book. We talked about how sports can play a constructive (or destructive) role in character development. kinesophy.com/distance-run...

As prospective philosophy grad students head out for their visits in the coming weeks, I think fondly of one of mine. USADA showed up to dinner the first night to give me a surprise drug test & I had to explain to the head of the department what was happening. Sports and academics are a great pair!

"We'll call it Track and Field." - the people who invented our sport who were bad at naming things and just looked at the ground to pick a name

This is Wednesday @cnucaptains.bsky.social! All are welcome. What Is the Meaning of Happiness? FEBRUARY 26, 2025 CNU GAINES THEATRE GAINES THEATER

As I head to the airport for a work trip, my 4-year-old: “I hope you see lots of friends and that everybody wants to play with you!”

Wild time be a track fan. INSANE.

Things I've written that have generated animus: - raising questions about supershoes. I wear supershoes. I just think it's important to assess the impact of new technologies on the sport - when I asked about potential costs of ordering our lives *entirely* in terms of bio-optimization & longevity

I saw a friend I haven’t spoken to since undergrad, and he asked me if I (1) still run a lot and (2) am still super into Hegel. 😂 One of these was just a phase, but I won’t tell you which.

❝Longevity is great, but there are other ways to measure a life. […] A beautiful life and an optimized life are not the same thing. — @sabrinablittle.bsky.social www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cons...

For the morning crowd. I wrote about biohacking and optimization culture for @psychtoday.bsky.social.

A long life is not the same thing as a good one. New post on @psychologytoday.com - A Case against Longevity Optimization www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cons...

We taught my toddler how to FaceTime us using the family iPad in case of emergency. Anyway, she called me three times during my morning run just to chat. Very good idea.

Third trimester running - yesterday meant 11 miles with 7.5 at 6:50 avg, today meant getting winded walking upstairs. It's really a do-your-best-whatever-that-means-that-day kind of season.

It is very important to run hard on your long writing days so that your outsides are as tired as your insides. Otherwise, your fatigue is asymmetrical.

Blogging is cool again! FINALLY. words > images

Grateful to appear on one of my favorite philosophy podcasts--The Free Will Show! We talk about free will and the paradox of moral education, as well as my work on sports and character formation.

It's my 5-year dissertation defense anniversary! Time flies when every day is SCHOOL. Love my job.

*Excellent runner runs 61 flat in the half marathon in his first attempt, following a long injury* Anonymous posters online: "Wow, not good! Please retire!" Running fans are brutal.

Week 1 of the semester in the books ✅ 9 hours of lecturing, plus office hours and meetings, after a couple of weeks of straight research and writing...I don't want to hear my own voice again until Monday. So much talking required.

With all of the talk about changing sponsors and free agency, here is a post I wrote 1.5 years ago about the ethics of running contracts. God speed to all the runners, haha. www.irunfar.com/the-ethics-o...

Eleven miles later, I stopped my watch — satisfied, yet aware that my run was a castle constructed out of lies. I never intended to stop early, but I told myself that I would. New column: I wrote about self-deception in endurance sports. www.irunfar.com/are-we-all-j...

I prepped 10 weeks of lectures and assignments ahead of time so I can pretend I am a research professor and focus on my writing projects to start off the term despite a teaching-heavy load. Follow me for more bad life tips.

In the same way that talking about vegetables does not make you healthier (you must eat them, unfortunately), talking about virtue does not make a positive difference in your life, or in anyone else’s life for that matter. New blog @psychtoday.bsky.social www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cons...

Trying to consciously unbrand myself from a sponsor of 7 years means wearing TRULY excellent 10-year-old running gear.

Often at the start of a new year many of us vow to pick up healthy habits like running, but beyond a superiority complex can running make you a better person too? | https://buff.ly/4gKcs1P @sabrinablittle.bsky.social argues that running can make a person more moral. Tap to read more. #newyear

The wisdom of @sabrinablittle.bsky.social was my go-to reading this year, and it inspired the end-of-the-year column for 2024.
