The thing is people freaked out by “diversity,” are mad if even one of us appears. Mad our credentials look just as good (or better) than theirs. Freaked out by the questions it raises. It’s not rational. Students looked slightly different, profs looked even less different, and they just melted down

We worked a lot of phones tonight to get people evacuated to safety and at least half the people I called don’t have local TV and had no idea the fires were raging just a few miles away!
