cringe, yes, but it's also fucking obscene. tens of thousands of fed jobs cut, hundreds of millions in research funding vaporized, US AID cuts that will be measured in millions of global preventable deaths, all at this motherfucker's feet, and he's making 69420 jokes about it

The Semafor article about the tech-centrist-reactionary group chats is informative about how there is a conspiracy of the most annoying people on the internet to make everything worse, but I mentioned before that Semafor is a pro-GOP outlet, and you can see it in the neutral-to-complimentary tone.

These were fine ideas attached to radioactively terrible sloganeering that obfuscated the ideas in the service of "promoting dialogue" about the issues by needing explanation. And you had people telling you that you had to use these slogans if you supported the ideas. Horrible political malpractice.

Not a novel observation but the way the numbers on this work like 90%+ of the people who get harassed or attacked over this are going to be cis women who don’t appear to be conventionally feminine to some random stranger

pretty fucking wild to read a story that confirms there *is* an elite cabal of some of the country's wealthiest and most influential people and they *are* coordinating strategy and tactics to try to control global opinion, it's just not any of the the cabals tinfoil hatters have always assumed

It's caucus season in Massachusetts! if you're interested in the future of the Democratic party, want to meet your local party leadership, and take a swing at going to the convention in Springfield this September, a caucus is a great place to start. Find yours here! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

This is, straightforwardly, an effort to curry favor with a tyrant

To recap, letting the Ukrainians hit Russian military assets actively attacking Ukraine within Russia is escalatory in a way that risks the conflict becoming WWIII but North Korea, a nuclear armed country on a different continent becoming an active co-belligerent is not

While the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 is remembered as being, well, in 2008, in fall 2007 I was working in residential construction, until getting laid off that November as work dried up. It was the water rushing out before the disaster.

One weirder moment from the end of the last Trump administration was this press gaggle with acting SecDef Chris Miller, who refused to let the Guard intervene on Jan 6th, about talking to a pilot about how the F-35 sucks and the pilot telling him actually it's great. www.defense.gov/News/Transcr...

LLM's improve automatic captioning systems, subject to human oversight of the final product, and in construction there's a lot of tedious stuff around estimating and drafting that we're looking at future AI automation of. Those would also be subject to human oversight, but would save some time.

I really wish reporters would stop saying that there is an effort by the Trump administration to combat antisemitism. It is quite the opposite. There is an effort to foment antisemitism. forward.com/fast-forward...

You can likely break voters into 3 broad categories: 1-Trump will inflict horrifying affronts to human decency, and that's bad (~50%) 2-Trump will inflict horrifying affronts to human decency, and that's good (~30%) 3-Trump is a business guy who will do what I personally imagine he should do (~20%)

One of the most blood-boiling things I ever read was some photojournalist talking about the photo he took (of a woman in civilian clothes (with an AK over her shoulder), putting a young girl (~10) on a train to Poland) and he was like “wow these strange eastern people, imagine doing this!”
