The Semafor article about the tech-centrist-reactionary group chats is informative about how there is a conspiracy of the most annoying people on the internet to make everything worse, but I mentioned before that Semafor is a pro-GOP outlet, and you can see it in the neutral-to-complimentary tone.

These were fine ideas attached to radioactively terrible sloganeering that obfuscated the ideas in the service of "promoting dialogue" about the issues by needing explanation. And you had people telling you that you had to use these slogans if you supported the ideas. Horrible political malpractice.

LLM's improve automatic captioning systems, subject to human oversight of the final product, and in construction there's a lot of tedious stuff around estimating and drafting that we're looking at future AI automation of. Those would also be subject to human oversight, but would save some time.

One of the most blood-boiling things I ever read was some photojournalist talking about the photo he took (of a woman in civilian clothes (with an AK over her shoulder), putting a young girl (~10) on a train to Poland) and he was like “wow these strange eastern people, imagine doing this!”
