Some needed good news, including the hope that the UK could actually have affordable energy.

Not true. I'll give you some examples of when styles crossed over from womenswear to menswear, and how men have worn straight-up womenswear or just feminine styles in cool ways. 🧵

Cannot believe how long this has taken, but still excited to see the results.

If you went to college/uni 1. What was your career goal when you started? 2. initial major? 3. if you changed majors, what did you change to? 4. what do you do know, professionally? 1. Maybe a lit prof? 2. Comp lit 3. Politics + enviro (with extra panic trying to go full env) 4. Prof in media/comms

I still think it ought to be possible to create something like a public, open-access social media site, just for the purposes of keeping up with people & tracking unfolding events.

More feather dinosaurs please!

I loved this so much that I read it twice and made my partner talk about it with me. Will use it in future to insert discussion of emperors' mothers, wives and aunts arranging murders into any and all discussions of the Roman empire.

Perhaps now is a good time to plug that I’ve been writing about the complicated histories of the verified badge (…series still ongoing obviously). Part one: datasociety.net/points/a-wor...

Relocating to the UK from Canada, the way national parks work here has been a real depressing education. Hope this is a step in the right direction.

If you watch something today please take time to watch my thoughts on the crisis facing Canadian democracy. We are in deeply uncertain times and parliament is failing to step up beyond dumbed down partisanship. Democracy is not meeting the crisis of the time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHPL...

The 🌍 commitment to #BeatPlasticPollution is undeniable. #INC5 has moved us closer to a #PlasticsTreaty. As ongoing divergence remains in critical areas, #INC5 has adjourned to allow for more time for these areas to be addressed. Read the final outcomes from Busan ➡️ www.unep.org/news-and-sto...

*chews nails* It's a lot of high stakes environmental negotiations for one month.

Trying to both do my job, which is teaching heavy at this time of year, and keep up with research and the plastic treaty is just a really big ask, atm.

FYI as more trolls arrive: @righttobe.bsky.social is doing a FREE bystander intervention training on 12/4 for those seeing online harassment. The description emphasizes journalists, but @emilymaynot.bsky.social says it's for ANYONE. Please do check it out! righttobe.org/events/bysta...

@enb.iisd.org does indispensable work. Great way to keep up with developments in Busan. #PlasticsTreaty

Oh wow, now that #INC5 and the plastic pollution folk are here on Blue sky I can finally deactivate my Xitter. Freedom!

Appalling behaviour by Saudi Arabia. A reminder that the COP President is accountable to every nation not to an obstructionist petrostate. #COP29

I am still wrapping my head around Google's announcement to stop political advertising in the EU in 2025. The decision to stop is allegedly due to regulation's broad definition of what a political ad is. But this is problematic. [1/2] #commsky #polcom #csssky #polisky blog.google/around-the-g...

The Spinning Climate Change working group at the CSSN made an online version of our framework for identifying green washing in environmental statements and claims! It helps guide you through yes/no answers to identify greenwash in action. Take a look at the link: cssn.org/special-proj.... #GreenSky

Today I realised what time I had to leave for the train 8 minutes before I had to leave, while still wearing my pyjamas. I made it. On the way back I missed the announcement that the platform had changed and missed that train. Big day for messing up transit logistics.

This is great! And as a reminder (for a question I get a lot) you can and should cite preprints where you use them. The 10 rules contained in here apply to all citable objects - yes you can cite more than just things that look like a scientific paper.
