I am deeply ashamed that the U.S. is not among these defenders of Ukraine but deeply grateful to the other nations of the world who have stood up to fill the void we have left.

Here in Illinois, ten years ago we saw the consequences of a rampant ideological gutting of government. It genuinely harmed people. Our citizens hated it. Trust me – I was elected based in part on just how much they hated it.

Job alert🐦 2yr post-doc position with Prof. Sue Healy on project "Mistakes in Action: From the Normativity of Goal-Directedness to Novel Investigations of Avian Nest Construction"🪺 Start asap. Contact: sdh11[at]st-andrews.ac.uk @uniofstandrews.bsky.social

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

“Celebrate and share good news” Agree. Good science is a good news.

Sheryl Crow: “My parents always said you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla. Money donated to NPR, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes the truth will…find its way to those willing to know [it].”

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

Big congratulations to #Agnes_Holstad who defended her PhD defense today @NTNU Check out her recent paper in Science www.science.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

We found the real one!

My OpEd in today's @winnipegfreepress.com Under Trump, the millionaires and billionaires are cannibalizing the poor to enrich themselves. Inequality in America is already the highest in the industrialized world. Now the ultrarich are taking even more. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

So far, Hesgeth says US policy is surrender to Russian aggression, selling out Ukraine and US interests for nothing. They don’t even make a case for one of those quid pro quos Trump is fond of. What is the US, or Trump, getting from Russia after these gifts? Certainly not peace.

Mindset reset: Right now, brave Ukrainians are defending their land & loved ones, at the cost of their sanity, limbs & lives. It’s an existential fight for their democracy & way of life. If the Russians lose, they go home. If the Ukrainians lose, they will be overrun & destroyed. #SlavaUkraini 🇺🇦

Excited to announce our symposium on the 'maintenance of trait variation under sexual selection' as a part of the Behaviour 2025 conference scheduled August 25-30 in Kolkata, India. Send in your abstracts! 1/2

A gay guy, a Black man, and a woman walk into a flight deck— that’s not the beginning of a joke, but just a regular day at work! There was so much DEI on this plane that we could hardly get in the air. Luckily my limp wrists were able to wrestle the heavy jet back to the ground 💅🏼

Check out the new preprint from @sekharma.bsky.social! Also with @batsrkul.bsky.social (new to Bluesky!). Sekhar did a deep dive into which parts of an agonistic interaction are influenced by direct and indirect effects, from the physical to acoustic components.

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.” University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

Well said, Pete Buttigieg

Really love this cartoon from the great Michael De Adder. The outpouring of support coming in has been truly amazing! Thanks everybody!

Why do some birds incorporate shed snake skin in their nest? Rohwer et al. suggest that the evolution of this unique but wide spread behavior is dependent upon nest morphology and most commonly observed in cavity nesting species. Read now ahead of print! www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Oh no, the Chinese version of the shitty plagiarism machine is better than the domestic one we also never wanted!

Just reread the classic paper by Trivers & Willard - Natural selection of parental ability to vary the sex ratio of offspring - published in Science in 1973, one of the most cited papers ever in evolutionary ecology. And I just now noticed that Trivers was an NIH post-doc when he wrote it. #NIH

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

A while back I asked folks why they’re joining Bluesky and the most common response I saw was, “I just want a good place to get my news” and, yall, no. Bad. GET YOUR NEWS FROM THE NEWS PBS Newshour is FREE FOR EVERYONE. youtu.be/PMOYN8JWdUk?...

Just because he has the power doesn’t make it right for him to abuse it.

Here's a leaf-footed bug nymph with a sparkly blue booty. Maybe this is a means of confusing predators? Juveniles and adults can produce a defensive scent so it could be warning coloration too. (Acanthocephala terminalis) Tennessee #BlueBugs #BlueMonday
