Today, 6yo D was confused by the concept of tying notes together, because, she said: "I don't know how time was invented." IKR? So we set the question to music. Her other big question, for the lyrics of the next piece we composed, was, "Will the baby be beautiful?" 🥹

Jaunty treble clef rubber band against Ikea veneer.

Life imitating art. #HandmaidsTale

⬇️⬇️⬇️ I am longing for this...

This music by Satie is lovely. How do I not know it? I'm going to teach it. I love [teaching] uncluttered music that moves by tiny but meaningful increments, as it enables real listening.

Regrettably, the phrase 'Life is too short' applies perfectly to learning Rachmaninov.

My satsuma strand is musical. 🥹

Just accidentally heard Laura Kuennsberg's voice.

Kittycat joined in our zoom music theory lesson. She wasn't very good at it.

6yo pianist D just threw her arms around her mummy's pregnant belly and sang 'Happy Birthday' to her little sibling-to-be. #PianoTeaching has its moments.

Hi Bluesky! Glad to be here.

I was so overcome by nostalgia that I can't tell whether #Brian&Maggie was any good. Not nostalgia for Thatcher (😨) but for the *unquestioning conviction* that we could make things good post-Thatcher. (And nostalgia for actually working on Weekend World - post-Walden.)

"I'm going to Brownies after this, and my mum's pregnant," announced 6yo pianist D, a moment ago. 🤣 #PianoTeaching

6yo pianist, Alice, said today has been "the BEST day of my life". Because (1) At school, they made sandwiches. (2) Then she played football. (3) Then we did an experiment, pinging the harmonics and identifying The Strong Guys, I, IV and V, then played a piece with their chords. #PianoTeaching 🥹

"I didn't know I had it in me," said 7yo pianist Daniel just now, quietly, after playing something quite nicely. (He's been learning with someone else up to now.) #PianoTeaching 🥹

'A stunning, life-changing piece of journalism, walking the liminal space between memoir and reportage in prose of glistening clarity.'

The world might just stop for 2 minutes, on Schubert's birthday, to listen to An die Musik. It's so simple and so profound. #https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmCwWfKpwwI

I'd like not to teach the piano in a miasma of aftershave, perfume, unwashed/sweat-infused-neoprene gym clothes, aniseed chewing gum... {End rant} 🤢

Oh what a tangled web they weave, to please all those who voted Leave. #Heathrow

IKR.

Piano teachers' auto-reply: I am currently surreptitiously scarfing Maltesers during a zoom lesson and playing Spelling Bee on my phone under the table. I have noted your last-minute cancellation, and will remind you of my T&Cs re lessons being non-refundable as soon as I am free.

Terrifying photo on Rightmove. 😨

9yo pianist Boris did a video'd Grade 2 exam yesterday. They're marked on 'stagecraft'. He accidentally turned to the camera after his 1st piece, saw his own image and said, nodding with approval, 'Niiiiiiiice'. I'm submitting it. HE'S 9! And it's a Peak Boy thing to do.🤣 #PianoTeaching

What fresh hell is this?

@teachypiano.bsky.social Hi! Wondering if you've got experience of the MTB exams, partic. in light of your expertise with autistic students. I'm finding it excellent. They are striving for inclusivity and sensitivity. My students are elated after these exams, & the quality of the comments is brill.

I've over-binged (a Thing) #TheTraitors so badly that I became obsessed with whether the shot of the letter on the golden velvet chair was the same shot every time.
