Why do people support dictators? How do dictators come to power? We teamed up with history professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat to answer the internet's burning questions about authoritarianism and fascism.

The Pale Carrier, 2024, pencil on paper.

Holes, 2014. One of the most abused forms in history. Exhibited in The Democracy of Drawing, AirSpace Projects, Sydney

This continues to be my favourite exhibition catalogue, Part Object Part Sculpture, curated by Helen Molesworth in 2006 when she was Chief Curator at Wexner. Being in Australia I never saw the show. Hesse, Fontana, Orozco, Gober, Bourgeois and more. Anyone out there who was lucky enough to see it?

I’m Not Your Oyster, 2023, acrylic paint on vinyl, 25x25cm. Part of a 2024 exhibition that marked the beginning of the Repatriation Project, that sees the return of a seashell collection to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. They will ultimately be returned by the Cocos Malay community.

I had a conversation with @Anand Giridharadas this morning he dubbed "The Stupid Coup" after what I've been calling it. If you would like me to be cheerfully intransigent about the clown-authoritarians, here we go: the.ink/p/the-stupid...

Phallic Eye: Anticipation. Addressing the male gaze. I’ve finished the visual component of my short video. Next step sound.

Another favourite is Peter Doig’s Man Dressed as a Bat, 2007, oil on linen, 300 x 300cm. In a similar fashion to Laura Owens’ work below, this painting displays atmospheric, almost hallucinatory qualities

Laura Owens, Untitled, 2003, acrylic and oil on canvas, 65 x 58inches. I love this painting, it’s so peaceful and full of gentle spirits. Everything is alive and watching in this washy happy communion

Venus Was Her Name, 2023, acrylic on vinyl, 111x138cm

When Brenda and I arrived in London direct from Sydney on 30 Sept 2023, the first thing we did was to speed walk to Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery to catch the last day of Rithika Merchant’s exhibition Terraformation. Such a thrill to see it in the flesh #rithikamerchant #kristinhjellegjerdegallery

@artcontemporain.bsky.social International Women’s Day 2025. Recent events around the world have taught us that hard fought gains can easily be lost. Keep up the good fight and support your sisters

nga.gov.au/stories-idea... The Anne Dangar exhibition at the Australian National Gallery was a knockout. Fascinating life and work. Great to see the careers of women artists receiving more attention and her relationship with Grace Crowley acknowledged
