This is a guest post by Sir James Munby, and it follows on from earlier posts about the proposed Assisted Dying reforms here, here and here. In Assisted Dying: What Role for the Judge? More Thoughts, published on the Transparency Project website on 6... https://transparencyproject.org.uk/?p=29356

The Kuindzhi Art Museum in Mariupol was destroyed by Russian bombing and its remaining art works looted and taken to Russia. This new museum celebrates the talentless Zhdanov - who persecuted Shostakovich, Akhmatova, Prokofiev and so many great Russian artists. The shame of this.

Never underestimate the threats posed by an ignorant, embittered and vengeful old man #Trump

Time to evict AirBnB from your life, if you have't already.

Tomorrow (13 February 2025) and every other Thursday from 2 to 4pm there are board and card games and dominoes at the Courtside café in Bury Knowle Park

For most Catholics being corrected on theology by the actual Pope might give pause for reflection but I'm sure Vance is capable of doing that.

Saw this gorgeous camel yesterday at the Silk Roads exhibition @british-museum.bsky.social But the maps in the exhibition were useless so I have little idea where the camels actually went

Not just reckless. This is evil.

Snowdrops and aconites already at St Botolph’s, Swyncombe. Glorious sunshine and a respite from the news.

The Lye Valley, in the heart of East Oxford, England is a fen and internationally rare habitat. It's home to rare plants and insects, and its peat acts as a huge carbon store. Find out more here: www.friendsoflyevalley.org.uk/index.html #WorldWetlandsDay 🌍 📷 Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)

Highlighting a key culture divide in the assisted dying debate. Enabling greater choice and control for some may well result in the opposite for those who are less fortunate. As @barbararich.bsky.social notes, more direct reporting on this platform of the Evidence Sessions is needed.

Dear Baroness Casey…10 problems with social care for your in-tray. My view here 👇 eyesandearsnortheast.substack.com/p/here-we-go...

"Reform is needed for many reasons, but the most important is the dignity and quality of life of people of all ages needing care and support to live their lives." letter by @melanie-henwood.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

This begs the question of why finding £22bn for the NHS clearly is palatable whereas the much smaller amount needed to sort out #socialcare isn’t? @meganekenyon.bsky.social

This is who Elon Musk really is. Don’t buy a Tesla. Location: Tesla European HQ, Amsterdam. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX3v...

I've never had a #Facebook account, but would certainly be quitting now, if I had one. Truth matters www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A timely reminder

An important lesson from history is for a new government to have a clear policy agenda and get on with implementing it as early as possible in its term of office. Labour may come to regret not having used its time in opposition to develop more worked through policy positions.

A little reminder that on Thursday 6th February (1 month today) I'll be at the British Library with Siân Hughes (author of Booker-longlisted PEARL) talking all things Medieval Women! #ForThyGreatPain #MargeryKempe #JulianofNorwich #Medievalsky medievalwomenevents.seetickets.com/event/tales-...

People have had enough of Elon Musk interfering with our country’s democracy when he clearly knows nothing about Britain. It’s time to summon the US ambassador to ask why an incoming US official is suggesting the UK government should be overthrown.

Well said Keir - defending our nation, our democracy and our elected representatives against these mendacious ravings is vital www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4...

Compare the sheer scale of the coverage handed by the BBC this morning to Nigel Farage and his party, with its grand total of five MPs, to its coverage of other similarly small parties.

Exactly. And the BBC shamelessly amplifies this poisonous drive

The social care decision is a craven cop-out by a new government with the majority to act. The timeline for the commission is a giveaway that nothing is to be done. NHS beds will remain blocked for the forseeable and the wider crisis in care is parked for another parliament.

Strongly advised not to need social care in the next 3 years (likely more) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Well…some irony today in the Commons Health & Social Committee holding an inquiry with this title…

Yes - depressing interview on #r4today. Wes Streeting kicking social care reform into the long grass. By 2028 an election will loom. Nick Robinson still thinks it is all about older people having to sell their homes - no mention of social care workforce, quality of care, beds etc.
