It’s been a super hectic semester at grown-up school, but I just spent the last three days doing school visits at Bedford South Elementary, and somehow I’m less exhausted than when I started. If you’re looking for hope, ask 300 4- to 7-year olds how they feel about community care and collaboration.

It’s true. If you have empathy, you can’t condone the inhumane actions many Western political leaders and tech moguls are pushing down our collective throats. Empathy for other humans, and a willingness to push back to preserve human rights for all, is their kryptonite.

I’m struck by a comment about job losses in the arts: “The wholesale and retail sector lost 29,000 jobs while the information, culture and recreation sector lost 20,000.” That’s not tariffs. That’s AI. Arts supporters, we need to be very careful not to let these job losses get lumped together.

It could be this. But it could also be that Carney knows how to “manage” Trump without antagonizing him, and that’s not without value. Nor is it an indicator that he’s acquiescing to anything. Yeah, I don’t believe it. I’m in a BEd program, and one of the most significant things I’ve learned this year is that only about 25% of teaching is information transfer. 50% is relationship building to support learning, and 25% is teaching metacognition. AI can’t do those things. 1/2
